As a completist, I decided to the Bernau site of the UNESCO Bauhaus listing in Germany. From Berlin it’s a simple journey on the regional train or S-Bahn, and a bus ride to the ‘Welterbe Bauhaus’ stop. The architecture is interesting, and the visitor centre is well designed, with a nice exhibition and some materials I wasn’t expecting to come across. The staff were uniformly welcoming and I had an overall good visit. Tours of the school are only available on weekends, and English language tours even more infrequently. It’s perhaps not an essential if you only have a passing interest in the Bauhaus. The other sites in Dessau and Weimar are by far richer. Wir haben das Bauhausmuseum im Zuge eines gemeinsamen Ausflugs besucht. Es liegt in einer wunderschönen Umgebung die durch Wälder dominiert. Leider konnten wir an diesem Wochenende nur das Lehrerhaus, die Dauerausstellung und das Außengelände besichtigen. Die Führung war schon von einer Gruppe gebucht und nur auf Englisch. Der Besuch hat sich trotzdem gelohnt wir werden wiederkommen und uns zur Führung vorher anmelden. I had a pleasure to attend a guided tour today.
