Really lovely place but for me there were a few things that didn't go down well, first, we were sat near the door when the rest of the tables in the room were not taken so when people arrived, I got the chills and bumped when they passed by. And second, I got a pint of Guinness in an amstel glass! The food was great by the way. Next time please let me sit where I want and serve drinks in their specified glass and I may come back. What a nice wee un inspected surprise lunch with my husband. What a comfortable environment for a luch time meal. I always did love the Cochrane Inn and i can say, I still do. Food was amazing and I am looking forward to returning sometime soon. From Canada visiting and found this place on my run back to our stay. Bartender/owner was kind enough to let me in with my running gear to ask about a reservation. Ending up coming in just before end of sevice time and we were served with no issues. Staff were lovely with the environment being a cozy nook that reminded us of small town yet refined. Meals were delicious with all platters exceeding not only taste but beauty standards thank you for being an amazing host. Whenever I go home to Scotland, this is my number one destination. A great meal is guaranteed: forget all that nouvelle cuisine nonsense, this is fantastic hearty fare. Like your mum’s home cooking, but even better, and a warm welcome to boot. Last week I started with haggis bonbons, followed by chicken Kiev. Glorious. Very disappointed in quality of food. Very attentive staff but felt we didn't get time to look at the menu felt a bit pressured despite the restaurant being very quiet when we arrived. Food was not good quality. Sorry won't be back and wouldn't recommend. Delicious dinner today at The Cochrane Inn. Starters of trio of haggis and honey goats cheese were both scrumptious and well worth the value. Mains of Beef Bourginon and Duck breast were equally good value and delicious. The red cabbage and apple to accompany the duck was utterly moorish! Puddings of lemon tart and chocolate fish cake to finish a delightful and well presented meal. Well worth a visit to this lovely restaurant and bar. We decided to go for a meal, Friday afternoon, not lunchtime/not dinner time. 3.30pm, so very quiet. We bought our meals from the specials board, and it was amazing, starters and mains. Portions were quite large and well worth the price. Definitely be back. Just had a lovely meal at the Cochrane, which is under new ownership. We each had three courses and every single one was delicious, special mention for the Cullen skink and baked mushrooms. The teriyaki beef noodles are a must try! Service was super friendly and fast, the restaurant is cosy and clean and very well decorated. Will definitely be returning!
