First visit and we will definitely be returning. Highly recommended. Staff were lovely too. Went to the The Mill House for their festive menu, 2 courses for £27.50. I ordered the Moroccan Spiced Houmous to start and the Traditional Roast Turkey for main. The houmous was tremendous! A good spice to it and plenty of it. However it was severely lacking on the flatbread front. I had to ration the flatbread and scoop heaps of the houmous in each bite. A poor bread to dip ratio. The main was decent. The turkey was moist and there were two large slices which was good. The maple roast veg didn’t have that nice sweetness to it and I got the smallest, saddest-looking, singular roast potato on my plate. But the worst part for me was the surprise mash potato. I’m not the biggest fan of mash and had I known it was there I wouldn’t have ordered it. Maybe an off night for them. They didn’t have a few of the meals on the menu and defo replaced a few items - which I don’t mind if they’d just explained that beforehand. The steak pie is a huge let down. Quite possibly the most watery "gravy" I've ever eaten (well, drank!). Chef needs to learn what a cornstarch slurry is, and pronto. Further, £20 for a cheese and bacon burger is practically unheard of in a Glasgow city centre restaurant, never mind a wee toon in Ayrshire. Service can always be hit and miss, particularly at weekends. Final tip - avoid the steaks. Chef still seems to be doing their work experience; they're horrendous. Finally, whoever designed the wine list must have forgotten that Europe exists - it's basically new world swill without exception, possibly whatever Matthew Clark has in bin end. Sigh. Not to be missed My husband and I had a wonderful meal at The Mill House in Stewarton. The food was very good, fresh, and full of flavour, and the service was excellent from start to finish. Arrived at restaurant just after 6.30pm; waited 15 minutes for someone to ask if we wanted a drink; ordered drink and food at same time; starters were served about 7.15pm with main course arriving at 8.07pm! Dreadful service and Thai chicken was dreadful; overcooked on one side and a plateful of rice! I’ve had this dish in Scott’s Troon and it was delicious, but so much in the Millhouse! When we complained about the wait the waitress argued with us about how long we had been waiting! Not good customer service! Will not be back and having eaten in several Buzzworks restaurants this one is by far the worse!
