The Open Championship was played here in 2024 and the venue was perfect for a major. Here for the 2024 Open. Manageable numbers,plenty of food stalls, although some are better organised than others. These look like tough fairways! Superb course. Perfect views and not a big rip off on the drinks. Went to the open on the Wednesday practice round and the 1st round of the tournament. Only issues are the train station and lack of trains. There was a strike too so pn practice round it was horrific. At least 2 hours wait as trains only every 30 minutes. And mainly 3 carriages to cater for a few thousand trying to get the train. However pn the 1st round there were 4 trains an hour so a bit better. All being said, would definitely go again. Parking was very organised. Getting out was another matter. It took us nearly 2hrs to leave. Organised chaos. The grounds were like walking through a farm yard. The 152nd Open Golf itself was amazing, seeing the golfers in the flesh instead of the TV was worth it... Finally got to play here. Course was awesome, unfortunately we were unlucky with the weather 13°c & high winds but we got to play with the grandstands going up for The Open. Staff were awesome & Malcom the starter was super friendly with some great jokes. We were gifted some bag tags with our names engraved & a tee bag as gifts. Highly recommend if you get the chance.
