My wife and I spent a one night at this place, the was very, very small, realistically only for 2 bunk beds, however, the ownership decided to put another bed, making the just too small for any personal items whatsoever… I ended up taking my bag out and putting in in a hole way… I understand that those places trying to maximize the profit, but COME ON! Bathrooms were nice, the from of the building and public space was great to sit and enjoy beer after a day of hiking … but those rooms were small… Breakfast was not existent, very little of anything, coffee was not good ! We stayed here during our Alta Via 1 trek and found the location to be excellent. On clear nights, stargazing is a memorable experience, and the view of the nearby town adds to the charm. We arrived around 1:30 pm, and the kitchen was still open, allowing us to enjoy a good lunch. Showers operate on a token system (approximately €3 per use). Wi-Fi is available, and the speed was reasonable during our stay. Dormitory rooms are modest but clean. However, with only three washrooms on the first floor, queues can be expected during peak hours. Space for drying clothes is also limited. Great location. Free showers and great amenities. Got lucky and had our own room, was tiny but comfortable. Space to hang washing internal and external. Dinner wasn't memorable but hit the spot and was plentiful. Breakfast didn't have eggs, but did have yoghurt and was plentiful. Big dog on the property was cute. Another beautiful stop on the AV1. Wifi: Yes Food: tasty lunch, dinner was serviceable. We took breakfast to go since we were tight on time. Rooms: Our was quite crowded, they stuck an extra cot in. There were no hooks or ways to hang anything, which was definitely tricky with our limited space. There were very few outlets in the room, but there were extra in the common area. There were drying racks in the common area as well. Bathrooms: The showers were nice, but they used up a bathroom stall. I showered at the tail end of dinner, which seemed to work out well. 3 euros for 3 minutes of hot water, which you could stop and start as needed. Potable water: No Other: They had a laundry service, which cost 6 euro to wash and 6 euro to dry (though the detergent smelled like cat litter to me, which wasn't ideal). They also had playing cards, which was nice. Stayed at Carestiato on the fourth night of our AV1 tour. It was so great to relax on the front porch visiting with other hikers after a long hike in. Great to have laundry done for us - what a lifesaver! Very friendly staff and fun crowd at yummy dinner! Recommend staying here - book in advance. Ideal location for a typical lunch in the Dolomites. Relaxing walk through the woods to arrive at the Rifugio with an amazing view of the valley and the Moiazza peak. Arrive early to get a table on the terrace. Rifugio Carestiato is a comfortable place to eat and sleep with great hikes nearby and fabulous mountain views. Three-course dinner was delicious and filling followed by grappa to end the meal.
