Il a vraiment pas été facile à trouver celui-ci 🤣🤣 Très beau et très intéressant, mais ne pouvant poster sur place par absence de réseau à la demi-heure à la ronde, j'ai zappé complet 🤣🤣 Not much left of it, little bit of architecture left, but it's a Nice if you go from oxwich to cadleston over swing bridge, there's also a nice little church on the way, if you go round the back of the church you will see some really old gravestone that are under cover, very interesting, obviously nice walks for the dogs as well. If you have a look around by the car you will see you can down to Beach from here as well. Smaller than Ogmore and almost no anybody here. The name Candleston is probably derived from the de Cantelupe family who built a fortified manor house here in the later 14th century. The lands of the manor later became covered with and thus valueless, but the building remained occupied until the 19th century and is consequently much altered. It comprises a D-shaped courtyard about 30m across with a very ruined wall 1.1m thick rising 2m to the wall from the inside but rather more above the ground outside, plus a two storey hall block and tower on the east side. The only feature of interest in the hall block is a 15th century fireplace backing onto the tower which contains a solar above a dark cellar with a very flat vault. The tower measures 7.9m by 6.4m and has a parapet on a corbel table around a dark topmost room probably for the use of servants. The solar is reached from below by a straight stair in the thick south wall and has a fireplace, large windows, and a latrine. The wing projecting south from the hall block is a later addition and the range east of the tower is even more recent. Candleston features only minor ruins, but it is surrounded by lush greenery. The nearby offer a distinctive touch, combining historical allure with natural beauty. Be prepared for uneven paths and consider wearing suitable footwear. The car was quite crowded during our visit. The is the remains of a 14th century fortified manor house and is to be found in Candleston Woods. The ruins are literally a stone's throw from the car (which is chargeable) but you wouldn't really know it's there unless you're looking for it. We drove here specifically for photos and to venture up into the around the castle. The itself is an open and admission is free, there is not much to see, however if you like photography there are some good opportunities here. If you like exploring, but fancy an easy one, this is for you. Massive dune for the kids to mess about on (as you can see, mess about they did!) And an easily accessible for you to roam around. Car is cheap and there is a sizeable plot of land to accommodate a lot of vehicles so it would have to be unbelievably busy for you to not easily. Basically- go and visit. Beautiful in sunshine, or the rain (I prefer the rain!) What a fantastic place for a wonder. So much to explore. You have to pay for using card or app. It doesn't cost much, from £2.50 for a couple of hours, or £5 for the day. As well as the castle, there are also the and the beach. Miles of walking. The list goes on. It's also quiet. "Ssshhh, keep it our secret"! Explore and enjoy... Lovely place Stunning place in a stunning location.. can be a little tight, but well worth the visit.. stunning beach also. Pretty good fishing from the beach. Mostly reclaimed by nature now there are still parts of the fort to explore. If you are at merthyr mawr then it's still worth a look at only 60yds from the car park. A lovely place for a visit, a few old walls and rooms to look around, very peaceful and relaxing despite the car being a few yards away.pay by card ,No disabled access,not for wheelchair people ,Quint little cottages in the lane way ,and you can cross the stepping stones to the much bigger Ogmore Castle. Absolutely lovely spot. Car was almost empty even during half term. Toilets to one end of the carpark too. Lovely dune and beach walks from here. Definitely going back. Not much to see of the old Manor house but still some of it left to clamber about in. is paid via card or app, no cash. Setting is marvellous. Went once after rain and over the rise and down to the foot of the big dune, the bridle path was running like a sandy stream and my kids played in it for hours. Lush forest all around and only a slow 90 minute hike through the to Merthyr Mawr Beach. Great spot, drive in through lovely little village too. A lovely ruin,usually quiet. Enjoyable to explore. Lovely day, Lovely place. Will definitely be visiting again. Beautiful ruins hidden in the woods covered in ivy, Idyllic. Difficult to find but once found well worth it. Don't follow sandy path, go up path into woods from car park, follow until there. Picture for path. Stunning with good parking. And super close to the amazing and Merthyr Mawr It's very small and seems to have been forgotten about. No real information on the which is a bit of a shame as you don't really know what you are exploring. Great area for a dog though. This little is in almost entire not much there but for the little bit that is thats covered in greenery I enjoyed the short visit definitely makes for some nice pictures too. Amazing place! All over grown and so so pretty. Amazing for adventures with kids. Very short from the car (£1.50) or longer from Ogmore is possible at low tide. You have to pay for the carpark, but the actual is free to see. The is a but covered in ivy and very romantic, set in a wood. What's more, from this carpark, you can through the woods, up the and on to the beach. Be warned that you should bring your own water and sandwiches with you. Beware especially during quiet Winter months!! I parked for 25 minutes next to the slope on a damp cold day. I did not see the signs. Returning from a month long holiday, in the post was a demand for £100 penalty!! I immediately appealed via email to Smart Parking. I hope for a fair resolution. However, as a pensioner, this has been very upsetting. That said in simpler times during the 60’s my friends and I loved playing in the and exploring the castle.
