I arrived here on foot at 9.30 and just so happens the man with the keys, he must stay in a nearby house, opened the gate and the door to the bell tower. The abbey is a ruin with the outlines of the wall clearly visible on the ground but the bell is pretty much intact. There are several large information boards and small plaques describing the site. Entry is free, if you have dogs they should be kept on a lead. It's now a ruin but the Bell is still standing as it was built in 1773 unlike the Abbey which was built centuries before. There is an internal staircase in the bell which can be accessed on certain days. You can also get a good view of the Wallace monument from the Abbey grounds Only able to view the outside and ground floor of the tower. Various ruins can be seen. Uneven underfoot. Only open from April to September. Free to visit. This review is about a pretty village across the Forth River from the Riverside of Stirling. It is a historical village with lovely bungalows and gardens. It has a play ground for kids. It is a lovely place to walk along the meadow. The road going out of Cabus Kenneth has beautiful meadows. Sadly, the abbey itself is just ruins now. There are many plaques around to tell what each area is believed to have been. You can only visit Cambuskenneth Abbey between April and September. Whilst it would be far more pleasant to visit on a bright sunny day, we still enjoyed walking around in the light rain we had the day we went there. Lovely Abbey. Glad I went to see it. You can get into the lower level of the but the stairs are blocked off to upper levels. Ruin out the backnlooks onto water. A window in that ruin look over to Wallace Monument. Looked interesting. was locked up despite saying it was open on line. Contacted Historic Scotland and informed them of issue. Receved a prompt response. Re visited 2 days later and gate was unlocked and was able to visit the site. Tower was amazing and well preserved, lots of informative signs. There is also a Memorial gifted by Queen Victoria to commemorate her distant relative King James 111 of Scotland and his wife who are interned at the site. Beautiful medieval structure! I wasn’t aware of the season schedule for visits, so it was closed. It’s open since April through September. It’s very impressive on the outside and I can’t wait to come back when it’s open for visits to see see the inside. You can see the since several locations in Stirling. Also parts of William Wallace's remains thought to have been taken and buried within the grounds of the Abbey. On the shore is the ruins of what was an impressive Bishop's Palace like that in Orkney. Quiet spot to ponder the passage of time, just a 20 minute walk from Stirling centre. Free to walk around the grounds. We visited on a weekday morning and there was no one else there. Just a mile's walk from Stirling station, Cambuskenneth Abbey is well worth a visit. Beautiful peaceful location and great views to the Wallace Monument in the distance. The is well maintained. The keeper of the grounds is doing an amazing job. We were there right at open and he gave us an interesting little spiel of the inside of the bell tower.
