The manager told us "unfortunately not, because the restaurant is very busy". Obviously a lie, since the terrace was completely empty. We left without eating, thus the stars of my review. Went there because I saw the many billboards on the side of the road advertising the fish soup. It did not taste like fish to me, it was not so great. We also had the house specialty (small in size for the money they sell it with) and it wasn't good either. The fried fish was also a bit cold. The serving was very nice though, a polite lady and a nice waiter. Would not come here again, unfortunately. Not worth the trip from Cluj to Valcele for this. I do not recommend this place, the prices are not the same as in the menu, everything was on the low quality side. Food is not great and the waiter (I suppose the owner) who took our order tricked us into paying the most possible (he said he will put just a little cheese on the fries and charged 7 lei for it, also he said that he could make the sauce with sourcream instead of tomato sauce but charged an additional 6 lei for the sourcream without warning and didn't even bring 2 cups for the 2 sauces we ordered and said that if we'd ordered one sauce the cup would be smaller 💀). Anyway, poor quality at an expensive price. Very embarrassing. Stood 20 in the entrance, no one even looked at us, not even a word when we left. 0 points in service. Absolutely delicious. We always enjoy eating here. Quite overpriced for the quality of the food. Granted, some of the fish is decent, but others are not. The trout in particular was pretty mediocre, the carp is decent. It has an older rundown atmosphere, so you'd think it may be on the cheaper side, but no. But most infuriatingly, the owner is all charming and nice, but ultimately they add a bunch of surcharges, even for things they didn't even bring. They put 18 lei worth of bread on the note,even though we never asked and they never brought any. Can't attest about the food, but after about 10 minutes of waiting at the entrance to be seated, with the waitress passing by us 5 or 6 times without acknowledging us we decided to find another place. Too bad, the reviews looked good. I got the feeling that the waitress was stressed and understaffed, but a simple "sorry, it will be a couple of minutes" instead of simply ignoring us would have gone a long way and we'd have waited patiently. Lovely river fish restaurant, was the best decision to pit on the way from the Turda Salt mines back to Cluj. Delicious, fast, full of flavour. A simple, real and hearty place.
