Really very good ruins of an extensive monastic complex with lots of good relief sculptures on the walls. Beaux vestiges d'une superbe abbaye. Worth a visit. They have a good guide book telling you all about the Abbey. Opens at 2 pm. Ruines d'une abbaye romane, très beaux chapiteaux. Very quiet when I was there in high summer. Gentle, kind and courteous welcome from the staff. Very beautiful ruins. Une très belle visite Unfortunately we were in a rush and didn't have too much time but it was beautiful and historical, and the view from the was also nice. Un joli lieu. Ce visite trop rapidement. Possibilité de monter au clocher. A beautiful hidden gem tucked away in the countryside. I just happened upon it during a bike ride and it was worth it to get up close and take some nice pictures. We visited this Abbey on Christmas week. It’s a great combination of culture and nature. Good amount of information, not too much as it’s usually the case and a well marked tour. The Abbaye de La Sauve-Majeure is a breathtaking site steeped in history and serenity. Surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills, its majestic Romanesque ruins rise proudly against the sky. Walking among the columns and carved capitals, you can almost feel the centuries of monastic life that once filled this place. The view from the is spectacular, offering a glimpse of the peaceful countryside. It’s a perfect destination for history lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking quiet beauty in Bordeaux’s hinterland. Timeless, spiritual, and deeply inspiring Definitely worth the stop. Make sure to climb the 152 steps to top of for a great view. Surprising how well preserved the stone sculptures were. Great booklet that explains the different areas. This was one of the highlights of our road trip in France. We happened to drive through the pretty town and stopped to the incredible abbey. It’s really beautiful and the guide you get on entry is great. Highly recommend to anyone in the area or passing through! Nice medieval place to visit, perfect for one day outing in French countryside. Uma aula de história! Uma abadia criada no ano de 1079! Recomendo o museu que no dominogo é gratis. Remains of chateaux in elevated strategic setting with views over countryside. Unfortunately the museum was closed when I was there (Sunday) so I missed out on the panoramic views from it's tower. For us it was also a plus that we could take our dog with us. We all enjoyed the so I would definitely recommend to check it out. Impressive ruined abbey of great historical significance, great for a day trip from Bordeaux and a 1 1/2-2 hour visit. Very kind staff who give you a detailed guide of the important stonework to see during the visit. Beautiful view across the valleys from the top of the tower. Only 8 euros for the tour plus a wine tasting in the nearby entre-deux-mers tourist/wine shop! Dommage c'est en ruine.
