A warm welcome and an excellent café, generous portions of a wide range of delicious food served with smiles by attentive staff. Some of the paths are suitable for less able people but some are steep and uneven requiring more care. We went while the azaleas were out and had an amazing time. The garden was glorious along with the surrounding parkland. Lovely food in the cafe and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We went during the week which wasn’t so busy so there were lots of places to sit in peace and quiet and enjoy the views. Lovely gardens, arboretum and woods. Need to visit the woods again in May when the rhododendrons are all flowering, but still loved it nevertheless. Some steep areas in the woods but nothing too difficult if you're fit and mobile. The arboretum has trees from all over the world- some huge ones that are very old and spectacular. The cafe is great, we visited a couple of times and had a cream tea and paninis which were delicious, and it has a beautiful, peaceful outlook across the gardens. Theres a gift shop and a small range of plants for sale. Recommended! First visit and very impressed. Lovely set in magnificent countryside. Quaint tearoom but high quality food and drink. Excellent selection of plants and shrubs to purchase. Special mention to Sharon at reception who was excellent at explaining all about the grounds and getting round various parts, very friendly and polite. The dog loved the parkland even if he did have to stay on his lead! Well worth the journey and we will be back again when the rhododendron and azaleas are in full flower. Beautiful well maintained gardens, despite hot weather.Lovely cafe. Beautifully tranquil with various sections such as Azalea garden, maples, acres greenhouse, kitchen garden, and parkland beyond, with clearly labelled plants, where some people were painting while I was there, plants for sale (about average garden centre prices) beautiful borders at the back of the Maples Tearoom but the highlight for me were the damsel and dragonflies hovering above the two, waterlily -scattered ponds, bobbing down and dipping their tails in the water. Also a lovely kinetic sculpture which moved like a dancer in the breeze. Maples tearoom serves delicious food and drink - mid priced . If any of you love ‘The Secret Garden’ book by Frances Hodgson you will get this place Absolutely magnificent if you love trees. A beautiful collection in a garden carefully designed and cared for over many years by the Bank's family Stunning gardens, and a chance to buy plants and there’s such a lovely cafe with great views over the lawn.
