We were so lucky to have a warm sunny day to climb up to see this monument. We used the easy path the go up and the steeper path to go down, glad we chose that way. The views were spectacular. Didn’t go at the correct time to enter the unfortunately. Well worth the climb Walked up from Ford park when the Saturday park run was cancelled. Was a good, fairly steep, to the top in the early morning and was rewarded with the spectacular view as the sun was coming up. We returned via path going left as you leave the monument. This was a longer, less steep walk. Access to tower on Sunday and back holiday only when flags are flying. Well worth a visit. Nice up a hill. Great views. Tower climb is a bit scary. I'm not terrible with heights but I didn't like the stairs to the top. The top felt safe. The decent down the tower almost as terrible as the climb. Free entry. Donations taken. No toilets. Worth a walk. Lovely views. Apparently there are two ways to get there from one side where the base point restaurant is (the steep way) and another way from the opposite side, not so steep and a better path. Watch out for the sheep and cow dung! You have been warned. If you can make it to the top of the hill, then you won't be disappointed with the view alone. You can go to the top of the monument, there is no charge and there is bottles of water on sale. There is a viewing platform at the top and you can take photos from here. Its just a short from Ford Park. The provides alot of information about Sir John and why it was built. Parking isn't easy and postcode shouldn't be relied taking you to single dead ended lane where you could struggle to turn around. For parking best to follow Ford Park postcode and through the park to the monument. Recommended to visit even if just for the views. A lovely walk. It is on a hill, it’s far from flat and even terrain. Definitely a job for your trainers. Not too far. About a mile up and a mile down. Google maps says will show you the way up! No cafe. Grab a coffee from the Orangery at the bottom of the hill after. Not buggy/pram friendly! Cracking view at the top. Nice to to this monument. It's about 20 mins climb and 20 mins down on almost flat surface. You can see both mountains and the sea from up there. I’ve went up Hoad Hill a lot of times when I was living in Ulverston, but I don’t regret it one bit. First, you get good exercise. There are a lot of stairs to up, but you can see a lot of Ulverston from there. Second, when you get up, the view is amazing. Although it is windy, which it always will be on top of a hill. From there, you can take it one step, or should I say 112 steps further, and go up the Sir John Barrow Monument, where there are names all over the walls and a beautiful view of sheep. Talking about sheep, make sure you’re careful while climbing up, because you could stand/sit on some of their poop.
