Had a lovely wander around what is reported to be the remains of the largest Iron Age hillfort in Britain! Loved the Millennium Stones and there are fantastic across Somerset from the war memorial. Had a refreshing beverage at the nearby Prince of Wales pub. Lovely country park, new of local stone.. great walks perfect for dog walks. Lovely classic country pub. Really country park with loos and friendly rangers. It's quite busy even on a week day. Good place for dog walking. The was erected in 2000 which makes it quarter of a century so has some catching up to do with thw others! pub up there too. The new Visitor centre is a lovely place.... once you've found it!!! I cannot believe that so much time and effort (not to mention public money) has gone into setting this place up... and there's NO SIGNS of how to get to it! D'oh!! Sack the Project Manager!! Once you're there it's very - & it's probably even nicer when it's not shrouded in thick fog, as it was when we went. Reasonable for disabled people - but not the hamstone footpaths which would be pretty impassable on wheelchair or mobility scooter. A beautiful across nature, hills and tree climbing! The quarry has been made a part of the walks and the rocks have been placed beautifully to create structures and monuments Brilliant place to go for walking the dog and for family picnics especially ideal for kids that love being outdoors cos they can explore all the various trails and hills that are everywhere, there are lots of car parks scattered around some small others are larger but not excessive, so be patient when looking for a space. The 390-acre Ham Hill Country Park set on an Iron Age hillfort, dating back to 600 B.C. in Stoke Sub Hamdon. In the late 1800s, thousands of Roman coins were found on Ham Hill. Archaeological digs uncovered the remnants of a military base near the present-day war memorial The modern-day was built to commemorate the centuries of quarrying on Ham Hill and those who worked here. Also on the property is the Prince of Wales pub where we enjoyed drinks on the patio and the incredible of Somerset. One of the most beautiful walking spots in all of Somerset. It’s so peaceful, with a mixture of woodland, hilltop views, sweeping valleys…and even a little hidden village amongst the pines. Start at the car park and head down to Montacute for lunch afterwards Such a beautiful spot to visit and to explore! So many choices of short strolls or long walks in the area, brilliant pub there too. Absolutely gorgeous views, and amazing spot for sunsets, star gazing and picnics or BBQs. There are lots of different car parks in the area of the main one is full. We have been here on many occasions with different groups of people. The kids love running around and exploring, (and the adults) particularly up and down the hills. Great space for big groups to play wide games. There are accessible paths too, but the paths do have rocks and the paths aren't specifically for wheelchairs. The only downside is people don't always pick up after there dogs around the visitor centre area, or the bins aren't emptied enough as it's a bit smelly sometimes. It's an amazing place to take you family & pet's for a picnic and also a there is free parking plus there is a very dog friendly pub as well if you fancy a spot of lunch the staff are friendly and the food is amazing as well This place was fascinating & beautiful, the were just stunning! The diversity of woodland & farmland, the modern circle, free parking, picnic spots, information boards about the iron age fort. Excellent place for a walk, explore, families & a running route too. You could absolutely spend a good few hours exploring this place. It was a tale in two halves, the circle, memorial, iron age fort was even grounded, easy on the legs. The woodland area was a little more challenging but still good fun! Rest room at the Rangers office, a wooded playground area & a looking pub. Set in a quarry this is a beautiful place for a picnic and a walk. Not too big prob get round in about 30 mins. Fantastic views. Also a lovely pub to visit at the top on the hill. Some fantastic and a lovely diversity of walks, woodland, meadows etc, you don't get bored of repeat visits. Newly opened visitor centre is small but very informative about the very extensive history of the site (iron age hillfort, roman camp, quarrying, etc). Only does snacks and drinks but you can go to the pub for full meals We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Ham Hill , it was muddy in places but as long as you stayed on the hard way it was fine. Lots to see and very interesting. Fantastic views, a great example of a renaturalised quarry sitesome featuring some unusual plants such as Common Gromwell. The Prince of Wales is a charming old pub to go for a pint afterwards.
