I have been eager to come here, and am so glad I finally did. Brought my three kids ages 6, 4, and 2 years on a hot August weekday afternoon. I had asked about parking on Google Maps, and was told I could park on the street only 100 meters away. I always try to understand where I'm going alone with small children before I get there, and I knew I was going to be on a quiet (honestly I was thinking a back-woods type street) with a very close homeless shelter near the landmark. But eager I was, so I set the actual Felseneremitage as my Google Maps destination. I went as far as GPS and the roads would let me (through quiet farm roads, which I wasn't sure I was really supposed to be on), and was stopped at what was basically a miniature village surrounding the surprisingly nice homeless shelter. There was a small parking lot at which I parked (after getting guidance from a friendly local). I was directed to walk through the flower boxes and then make a left up the uphill path following signs for the Felseneremitage. It was a very short walk (less than 5 minutes even at my 4yo's pace), though it was slightly uphill. The actual landmark (an ancient church built into a rock wall, first mentioned in the 1000s) is SO cool to see, and the informative signs both at the path entrance and at the landmark itself were great supplements with layouts of the grounds, maps showing you what is what, and a drawing of what it once looked like. I only wish we were allowed to get tours through the apartments. The landmark itself is set apart from the street in a very quiet, half shaded grassy area with multiple benches. There was no one else there while we were on this August late afternoon. If you're even remotely in the area, I suggest you see this. I would have driven the 45 minutes it takes from my home but it happened to only add 20 minutes to my drive and was more than worth it either way. If you like old interesting unique structures, this is a must see. It's just a spot that shows the back of time when those monks practice。 And if you are up for a walk , it is nice, I guess . Neat place, but nothing really to brag about. Good history given on the signage and easy to get to. Had a refreshing drink at the Cafe trailer just outside the trailhead. Great view of the Felseneremitage, just walking distance from Lindelgrund camping.. Very interesting historical site! Tricky hike from Bretzenheim through vineyard and forest, with great views. Needed Google maps as trail crossings not well marked. Amazing place Quite impressive, but you need to check dates for guided tour.
