Archaeological Museum of Kalymnos

An excellent to visit while on the island of Kalymnos, it has a lot of history of the island and an amazing collection of artifacts which have been carefully escaveted and very well preserved especially the marble statues of greek gods and the most beautiful bronze statue " The Lady of Kalymnos" dating back to the Hellenistic period, which was found by a fisherman on the Sea of Kalymnos a few years ago. Beautiful sculptures, pottery, and tools dating back 7,000 years. Since the is a bit out of the way, it is never busy and many times you are alone with the exhibits to contemplate and appreciate them. It is a truly wonderful place and highly recommended. I visited the after a two week holiday exploring the island. This gave context to the exhibits on display. The exhibits range from 5400BC up until about the 18th century, and a good quality and well preserved. Cost of entry was €5 when I visited. Nice museum, two floors only, but enough to learn a lot about the island‘s history! A gem of a find while walking the back streets of Pothia. Only 4 euros and can easily spend more than an hour, diving into the well written, beautifully laid out galleries. The staff, attentive, knowledgeable and very courteous/friendly. I'm very likely to return again before this trip is over.
