For a novice like me going up is quite hard work but saying that I have throughly enjoyed the with absolute spectacular over Shropshire and Wales. What an amazing and view from the top. The pathway is a well maintained road with enough space for 4 people to next to each other. Someone has gone through the trouble of installing 4 wooden benches on the summit so you can relax and enjoy the view. I would highly recommend this if you are in the vicinity. The pillar itself, which dates from the early 1700s apparently, is now fenced off as it's starting to look a little unsafe and crumbly. The last section of the is a little steep, both up and down regardless of which route. Also, you just keep dogs on leads the whole way as there are pheasants being raised.. and there were loads of them everywhere. My dog would've eaten them all given the chance.,. A good steady incline to the top and a nice easy path to follow. I hate hills but even I managed this one. The last stretch is very steep and slippery after it has rained so make sure to wear proper shoes with grip. The are a beautiful reward at the end.
