The Devil's Arrows are three Bronze Age in a line. Made from milstone grit, originally, there were at least four. One was taken down and used as a foot bridge over a nearby river. The tallest is over 6 m high. If you're interested in prehistory, they are definitely worth seeing. I think pictures of ancient places look more atmospheric in black and white. What a great find, you can feel the history or prehistory of this place. Older than stonehnge. Imagine! Small parking area just as you reach the first stone, on the road to the marina makes access easy You can visit one stone as the other 2 are in a farmers field Definitely worth a visit if in the area Quite impressive how they got there and the height of them, more should be made of their significance Three very impressive, enormous prehistoric stones. Two of them are in a farmers so be respectful, whilst the other is right next to a road. It was reckoned that there were probably five originally. There are several theories as to why they were erected but nobody really knows. A story says that the devil threw them at nearby Aldborough, but missed! There's a small car park with an information board and it's well worth stopping to see them. Very impressive but facilities are poor and unpleasant. There's a few parking spaces, but no access path to 2 of the 3 stones. Owner of the two are in has dumped very smelly muck yards from the so even viewing them from a distance is unpleasant. I've given this only 3 stars as I dont think the are being given the respect they deserve. 3.5k years old and visitors are treated like an inconvenience. Having been to Avebury this weekend im sad to see these in this sorry state. A very impressive set of prehistoric stones, 2 are in a farmers so treat the area with respect & stick to the pathways & there’s another stone by the road, apparently there were more originally, some stories say maybe up to 7 stones. There’s an info board by small car park for 3 cars nearby. We stopped here for a drink & sarni break from driving home from up north & I’m so glad we did, so much better than the services or a lay-by Great little visit, just off the motorway. Line of three ancient with parking spaces and an information board. Peaceful and atmospheric. Highly recommended if you just want a short break from driving. Slightly muddy but otherwise very easy to reach. Nice little site to explore with one of the alone in a fenced area. The other two are across the road in a farmers with parking for 2/3 vehicles. I'm not sure if you can enter the field, I didn't, but there is an inf board where you park. These magnificent ancient monoliths, the second tallest in the UK after the Rudstone monolith are just off the A1 at Boroughbridge. Fully accessible all day with their own parking bay! Two are in a and the third is over a minor road. This is like a Yorkshire Stonehenge. Three huge about 25 feet high in a row beside the old Great North Road. Unfortunately in October 2024 the farmer had chosen to plant a of huge maize plants round two of them which detracted somewhat. Not much to see was really boggy so viewed from car park Reading other reviews, I notice that nobody points out that the two tallest are taller than any of the at Stonehenge! The tallest stone in England is at Rudstone in West Yorkshire. So Yorkshire has the three tallest in England!! The may have come from near Knaresborough but may instead have come from prehistoric quarries near Ripley to the west. Cool place to find and stop at. Please stay off the farmers field/crops. If you're interested in our Neolithic or Bronze Age past these beautiful monoliths are well worth a visit. Please be considerate of the crops though - it's a working landscape deserving your respect when visiting.
