What a place, took our Granddaughters for a visit and they loved it. They had set up some easter crafting activities which were free for the girls to do. Then on into the park land where they ran around looking at the various trees and plants. There is a largish play area that they also loved, but their best experience was the walled garden area that houses the of pray, owls and other including I believe his name was Raymond the Raven. When we looked round there was absolutely noone so the girls had free reign to look at the various but the best was Raymond who they got to talk and say hello. We were treated to a flying display by the Falconer very personable and informative one of the better displays i have seen. Plus we got to see George and Mildred who are actually George and George. There is a large eating area and also a very clean and well stocked Cafe with cakes to finish on. Staff are very friendly especially the falconer, the young man doing the crafting stuff and the ladies on the entrance. Was a little cold but will come back in summer with our other grand kids we also managed to see all the magnolia's in bloom before they get battered by the wind made my wifes day so all was happy place. Lovely walks through woodland, excellent array of shrubs, trees and greenery. The wild and mammal's are well worth a visit, the wild bird show is informative. Tea room is well equipped and reasonably priced. Lovely spring day spent walking around just taking in the beautiful landscape. Shame information about the trees is extra. The wallabies were beautiful and lovely touch being able to go in with them. I will say the owl and of prey area seemed very outdated and felt almost sad being there. We did have a little more to look at as the Easter trail was still on. I do think the price is a little steep, especially for a family of four. Fantastic day out for kids of all ages. play areas. You can meet the animals up close and they have an array of different birds. Food at the cafe is nice but a bit pricey if there is a few of you. Take a picnic as there is plenty of areas you can sit and eat it. Didn't know anything about this until we visited. Initially just went to cafe (free) and then decided to pay to go round. Was more expensive than we expected (online is cheaper) but was v enjoyable. Paths were easy walks, we caught the end of an interesting bird of prey demo, and loved meeting wallabies The arboretum was lovely; walks, good planting and an interesting variety of mature trees create an enjoyable woodland to wander through. The various statues and carvings make it a good place to explore. It feels bigger than it is. The cafe was tasty and quick with plenty of outdoor seating - some of which was under cover. The generous portion of delicious soup came with 2 rounds of sliced bread and appeared to be homemade. The lemon cake was too tempting to resist. The bird of prey and mammal centre was a little disappointing. The are clearly well looked after and cared for but the walled garden area feels under-funded and in need of renovation. Large areas that could have held aviaries were boarded off with weather worn plywood. It’s a shame those spaces don’t hold more birds. The display was - educational and entertaining. The talk was given by a keeper who clearly knows their stuff and cares passionately for the birds. It was difficult to find the entrance for the mammal section as only the alternative gate was open. The baby meerkats were adorable, the goats cheeky and the wallabies very chilled out. Absolutely amazing place! So quiet and tranquil. Amazing smells from all the beautiful flowers and everywhere you look could feature on a postcard. So well tended and clearly comes from a real love of some amazing trees. We loved it so much we've bought annual passes now! A family day out. From amazing gardens to kids play parks and cafes, there is something to be enjoyed by everyone. The bird show was spectacular and the handler really knew what he was doing.
