After lunch at Rizinia, we drove to a church nearby and strolled back up the slope. We actually noticed that there were several couples who walked back down the slope after lunch at Rizinia. It was probably that they did the and ended with a sumptuous meal at Rizinia. Well, we did the opposite. Fuel up before the right? Following Google Map, we trekked back up the slope after parking the car and we found the entrance to the of Sarakina Gorge. In fact, there was an elderly couple in front of us and they were walking up the slope so quickly that we actually lost them along the way. Really fit elderly couple this. From the entrance, it was another 10 minutes before we reached Sarakina Gorge. The river was dry when we reached this time which allowed us to into the without much trouble at all. It was actually quite exciting to stroll into the and take some amazing photos. While we didn’t go through the entire gorge, it was indeed an experience and reminded us of our visit to Antelope Canyon previously – another geological structure, carved out by the meandering river... Probably the best time to visit is around spring because the stream is pretty dried out during the summer. Nature is beautiful, but there’s a rocky path so proper shoes are advised! Didn’t expect to see that many flies while passing the itself… מסלול הליכה יפה מאוד Ganz nett, im März führt der Bach kein Wasser. Discover the enchanting Mescla Trail, a hidden gem on the island of Crete. This 7-kilometer (approximately 4.3 miles) takes you through a stunning landscape of rugged cliffs, lush greenery, and ancient history, making it a must-visit for avid hikers and nature lovers alike. Your adventure begins at the trailhead in the quaint village of Mescla, nestled at the entrance of the gorge. Here, you'll find a rustic wooden sign marking the start of the trail, with detailed information about the route and what to expect. The starts with a gentle descent into the gorge, shaded by olive trees and fragrant herbs. Very pleasant walk, pretty easy, a bit more challenging if you do it from bottom to top, in the Spring when snows are melting there is water insde the parh, so you might get wet and will have to jump from stone to stone, although you can avoid that completely by walking around, but that is the most of the gorge. The through the is quite short but very shady and especially the small canyon is very impressive. It's best to park in the free parking lot close to the Taverna Halaris. If you follow Google maps to the gorge, you will end up on a very narrow dirt road. Easy start. But it’s pretty steep in places. Great views. What a it is! 10 out of 10. Easy to park by the church, then follow the up until you see a sign about the trail. On the map it says 1 out of 5 easy. The is not that easy at all. It has a nice elevation. There was water in the when we went and we had to jump rock to rock. The kids loved it. One of the reviews said that there are no marks where the is. That is not true. The whole is up: on rocks or trees every few steps. We played a game who could spot the next marker and it was fun. The does not end when you come to the paved road. It continues on that for a bit and then goes back to the woods. Anyway, we loved this trail. Very and fun! Hike Short, fun and exciting. About 1 km of walking. Fairly easy terrain. Best to have hiking shoes. You park your car at a spot near the church of the village and then you until the starting point of the hike. You start hiking in a small Forrest. You will find picnic site there. After some walking you find the entrance of the gorge. Initially the is wide but after a few meters you reach the famous and magical of the where it is very narrow and the walls are of stone. This lasts for about 15 meters and then the is wide once more. You can continue hiking after that as this is of a bigger one, that starts from the same spot , crosses the and then starts ascending towards the village of Zourvas. How to get there You can drive to the village of Meskla Road Asphalt Short but nice gorge, worth the visit. There's a 3km round route that you can walk, lovely views of the nearby mountains when you go up from the gorge. But the is at the very beginning of the walk, in case you want to just see that! You can park by the church close to Taverna Halaris and from there along the road, about 5 minutes. This was my first I went to on August and it was good! It was really quiet and we were almost alone there on whole trip. Really relaxing even there was sweating points you had to rise higher quite steep. We spent totally about 2,5 hour on this gorge. Taverna Halaris next to a church was also a good restaurant to have a lunch after a hike. 🫰 I'll do an own review of that. Really well maintained and hike! One of the best we have seen on Crete. The beginning through the is indeed probably most spectacular but we really enjoyed the up and the views over the mountains! There was no water in the beginning of march. Very path, perfect for those, who are looking for a short in the shade. Almost half of it is in the forest. The is easy, just last 500m is uphill. Really clean and well path! We love this place. It’s beautiful, peaceful and calm. A well path helps you along the way. We parked in the car park of the monastery in Meskla and the entrance is a short up the hill, along the road, from there. We went inside the monastery and left a donation. It’s a steady but it’s a bonus if you’re fit and wearing the right footwear! Take plenty of water!!! hike. The however is not well and it is likely to get lost. views and plenty of nature.
