What an amazing place to visit. First of all the staff were so welcoming. They were not stuffy but really nice people to be around. Stuart, our guide, a qualified geologist, was amazing. He brought the place to life. Without him, it was a hole in the ground. With him, it was an adventure into the past. A fantastic wee and shop. Full of local history and associated gifts with and the like. Very pleasant and helpful staff. The gift shop is very well layed out. Don't forget to the tea shop. They have an excellent selection of freshly made hot and chilled food. The warm chilli/cheese scones are exceptional. The staff in are very welcoming and offer to bring food to your table. There is free biscuits for your 4 legged friends too. Very good toilet facilities and there is free parking on site. You can try your hand at gold panning with a guided lesson and also purchase a day licence on site which will permit you to pan in the designated rivers (map provided) An excellent day out for all the family. Excellent place to with loads of history. The food from the cafè was really as was the coffee, and they have Oat Milk amd gluten free items. All the staff I spoke too were very enthusiastic about the place. Dogs are allowed inside the cafè within a designated sitting are which is surrounded by historic facts. There are public toilets seperate to the Cafè. It was very good, the part was very informative, and we went on a guided that included a walk into one of the mines, as far as a stope (dirty big hole in the ground), rhenium down to some workers cottages, a pumping engine, and to the 2nd oldest subscription library in Scotland. The was very knowledgeable, he was quite local and therefore difficult to interpret if you were foreign. As we were heading home from a holiday in Scotland we didn't have a lot of time to explore the local area, but there were more trails available to take.
