Note this beautiful ruin is ‘fenced off’ so you’ll need to enter through a hole in the fence if you want to explore. There are a lot of warnings about how unsafe it is to be there (as well as common sense) so if anything happens it’s on you. That being said, it is a fantastic gem to explore. Just don’t say nobody warned you! What. A. Place. And story. Got up the road which has gate posts with "Buchanan golf" on it and then as you drive up, pass the golf entrance on the left and continue. It will appear in front of you. There's space for a car or two without being in neighbours way. Some urban exploring later and you're lost in an incredible piece of grade2 listed castle/house. Be very careful as you explore. Many big hazards. A lot bigger than we thought and a good explore. Easy to get too and the building itself is accessible if you look hard enough Beautiful old castle. Under a lot of overgrowth. This isn't accessible to the public and is very hazardous Such a beautiful abandoned castle. We parked at The Winnock Hotel and walked up through Drymen Woods. Lovely 20-minute walk and easy to find. There is a fence around with Danger / Keep Out warnings (so be careful!) We entered through a hole in the fence. Such a beautiful wee gem to explore. We saw another couple around the ruins, so it's a rather popular place to explore. Such a different way to see Mother Nature and how it can take over This place is a bit scary but if you are into adventure I totally recommend it Absolute gem to (it gives Tomb Rider temple vibes)! You can enter through the hole in the fence, but make sure to be careful when you're walking around! By far, out of the three other castles I'd been to, this one is my utmost favorite. Secluded off from the world, only a few other people were there in the time that we were and we were all in different areas. It was extremely quiet. It's fenced off, but we were told by some people that looked like they lived near the place there was an entrance, and to just be careful while we were in there. When I got up close to the castle, before I even got in, I already felt like I was in a movie, that the scenes would have been perfect background shots. Every room, I could feel, had a story to tell. I loved it so much! There were a few places that you had to be EXTREMELY careful, wherever you walked, but the rest was fine. Lots of greenery had taken over the place, and a tree fell in one area. There was a tower that could be climbed. A board (BE VERY CAREFUL) to walk across to get to another level. The ONLY thing I did not like about this place was the graffiti, but nothing can really be done about that. This place was perfection. And?! You don't have to pay to go see it.
