Cold ..ok expected but mostly an empty giant building. We had much better experience at the other chateaus in the area. Paying for parking was a bit off putting (not needed at others) and lack of toilet seats was a negative ...I mean if I wanted to take turkish style dump (poppasquat) I'd go to Turkey ... oh wait they have toilet seats there too. Great to walk around in the evening and to see the Chateau Light Show We visited Chambord on a Saturday morning. This château is stunning, with over 450 years of rich history. The entrance had a few restaurants, food stalls, and art stands. The place exudes power and impressiveness. The kids had a great time running around the gardens. We ended our visit with some ice cream, sitting on a bench among the trees. It was a fantastic experience! We booked a day trip on Viator with the City Wonders tour company. The chateau is amazing. The double helix staircase is an interesting feat of engineering for the time period. I am fascinated with the history of this chateau, the beautiful architecture and the gardens. Highly recommend visiting the Loire Valley and its castles. The gardens are beautiful! They are very well taken care of and there are many places to sit and enjoy the view. There is also a horse show (extra pay, ask when you buy the ticket for the castle) on the estate. In my opinion this is the most impressive building in the whole of France. I loved the double helix spiral staircase. Clean and tidy with a great team to support their customers. A simple but more than adequate breakfast is in the price. Great for an overnight stay and very close to a busy pizza restaurant and a McDonald's as well as an Aldi and SuperU. Loads of free parking is a plus. The exterior of the castle and gardens are breathtaking. Inside, the double helix staircase is fun to climb with another person on the opposite staircase. Keep in mind that most of the rooms are empty, but there is some modern artwork throughout. The castle (information) displays are really disappointing, but the gift shop has a lot of great items. It's fun to see and count all the salamanders throughout the architecture.
