Wonderful! Be careful to check the opening hours before you go, because the interior is also very Google maps gives horrid directions to this place. Instead, set Google maps to the St. Marina Church and drive up the dirt the continues up the across from the church. The dirt splits almost immediately and you should take the lower to the right. Stop at the gate and open it, drive through, and close it behind you. Repeat at the second gate. Keep an eye out for the off to the right and park at the small lot at the top of the hill (pictured) so you don't have to go down the driveway of death (it is barely walkable). This is absolutely stunning! Nature around it ,the view, peace and quite that it offers left me speechless. This is one of my favourite places in amazing Naxos island. serene place that offers an opportunity and space to pray or just sit quietly and contemplate. We parked next to the rural path that leads through gates and farm right to the monastery. The is a small fortification like building with interior, icons ans medieval frescoes. There’s a nice local lady at the entrace who will offer you a sweet when you leave. Views and panorama are splendid. Just beautiful. Be mindful of the opening times. We were able to go in on Saturday at noon. Astonishing bizantine monastery, not suggested nor indicated in any tourist guide. Really interesting from an architectural point of view and for the wonderful sightseeing on the whole panorama. Strongly suggested to spend half an hour to visit it and to leave an offer. Great view, but needs a walk up 30 min to het there. Car is possible yet difficult and sand road. We found the as a secret tip on the internet and decided to go there. We took the route by car and close to the the changed. Most of the tourists choose to park down here and walk to the monastery. We saw the rather difficult way up and I decided to try to drive up there by car. Its rough and stony but its drivable. If you like challenging roads, as much as I do, you going to love it. In the middle of the you find a small gate. It's for keeping the goats in. Open it, drive throu and close it again please. The itself is small but absolutely and its quiet so you can enjoy the view. Inside we met a very kind local lady and she offered us some sweets. We stayed there for a while and the atmosphere was kind of impressive to me. Some 'corner of the world'- feeling. Enjoy! A great piece of history to check out. Interesting for adults and kids both but it won’t take long. The drive up to the is a bit rough but most cars should be fine. It really worth visiting this monastery! The of Fotodotis is a true hidden gem on the island of Naxos. The monastery, surrounded by lush oak trees, fig trees, and vineyards, provides a tranquil escape from the bustling tourist spots. The architecture of the is stunning, with its fortress-like appearance and beautifully preserved frescoes dating back to the Byzantine era. The views from the are breathtaking, offering panoramic vistas of the neighboring Donoussa island and the cerulean Aegean Sea. Travel Tip: While the is accessible by foot, the 1000-meter walk from the main can be quite challenging, especially during the hot August weather. I recommend arriving by car to make your visit more comfortable and enjoyable. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, the of Fotodotis is a must-visit destination on Naxos. Don’t miss the chance to explore this enchanting site and soak in its serene beauty. Magnifique lieu avec une personne adorable pour vous accueillir. The dirt might scare some away, but it's worth braving. Fantastic with views. We were the only ones there.
