Nice out lovely area The headlands is great for a walk, especially at night, the sea facing houses have opulent interiors that you can see into. The is bracing with the briney wind reminding you of the sea's forbearance. Stark shadows briefly lit by the headland lighthouse reach out to mariners warning them of rocky hazards and guides them into safe haven. The off shore windfarm provides parallel lanes of red lights that are seemingly out of place in the dark. Almost like runway lights although I pity anyone that ever has to land there. The multiple coloured lights from passing vessels dot the dark horizon, those with the knowledge of the lights positioning can tell the bow from the stern and the port from the starboard in the pitch blackness. Each one holds its own little community and is on it's own foray beyond our grasp! The stark outline of the Hugh battery has stood sentinel over the harbours entrance during two world wars, guns silent but a cautionary reminder of our foolishness in times past, when words failed and swords were drawn. There are toilets and disabled facilities at the Hugh Battery, which, when open, has a cafe. Next as we continue walking with the sea to our right, there are quiet gardens mourning the sad failures of diplomacy with the names of those who's lives paid for that failure. It reinforces that reflecting on those who went before us is not a wasted pastime. Just past the Battery is a type of amphitheatre facing the sea with seating for dozens of people. I visited at night as you may realise hoping to see the aurora borealis which is often visable. Well worth the and taking the time to absorb and enjoy the history.
