Had a full roast dinner in a Yorkshire Pudding wrap, fast service, friendly welcoming staff, great value for money, picturesque views, would highly recommend anyone to visit. We were staying at Ushaw and this was recommend as the local place to eat,we decided to give it a try instead of driving into Durham which was probably the best desicion we made all weekend 😀 The atmosphere was very friendly from the moment we entered to the moment we left , the food was amazing and the waiting staff were friendly and very helpful. Had starters and main )but didn't remember to take pic of the starter ) and the portion size was good and the quality of ingredients top notch, definitely worth a visit if you are within at least 20 miles 👍 will definitely be back The staff here are warm and welcoming, which makes you feel at home right away. The food is very good, served fresh, and the whole place has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. What really stands out are the beautiful green views we can have in the pub, they make this setting feel peaceful and special. A great spot to enjoy good food and a lovely environment. Sorry only was able to take desert photos by the plates were amazing Sunday roast was lovely, happened upon it while visiting ushaw moor for a car show will definitely be back. Had two fantastic evening meals here whilst staying at Ushaw college. Massive portions making great value meals all very well cooked and presented. The food was reasonably priced. I thought the quality had gone down a tad, but you get what you pay for. My smokehouse burger was tasty but the burgers were a bit rubbery (if you know what I mean). Others in our group had Salmon and reported it was lovely. Overall very nice place, staff lovely. A delight from start to finish! We have visited the New Board Inn on many occasions in the past and have always enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and homely food. Unfortunately, our recent experiences have not reflected the same level of quality we previously appreciated. During our last visit, I ordered a ham and pease pudding sandwich with chips. The ciabatta bun fell apart quite easily, suggesting it may not have been fresh, and the filling was rather sparse. When I mentioned this upon paying the bill, the manager explained that the buns had been frozen and recently defrosted, which may have affected the texture. We decided to return again today for lunch before the school run. I ordered the corned beef pie, while my wife chose the mince and dumplings. Both meals were served within about five minutes of ordering, which raised some concern regarding preparation time. Unfortunately, it appeared that the dishes had been microwaved rather than freshly cooked. The corned beef pie was largely made up of potato with very little corned beef, lacked seasoning, and the crust was soft and squidgy. The gravy also appeared separated when served. My wife’s meal was acceptable, but not of the quality we would expect for the price. We genuinely appreciate that the hospitality industry faces challenges, but we have dined at other local establishments offering smaller menus with a clear focus on freshness and quality. Regrettably, until we feel confident that the New Board Inn has returned to its previous standards, we will likely dine elsewhere. We sincerely hope the issues noted can be addressed, as we have enjoyed many excellent meals here in the past.
