This was an incredible experience! Having heritage from the region, my husband and I were guided by Ioannis who took the time to explain the before showing us the explaining the events of the 1821 Greek revolution. The building contained incredible artefacts from the revolution as well as hand written notes. The of the flag was incredibly moving. We then proceeded to the other building which contained pieces for the 14th and 15th century. Marble, clay and hand crafted pieces were displayed with so much thought. The mosaic and wall painting of Christ. Wow. Despite arriving with only an hour before close, Ioannis did not rush us, and assisted with any questions we had. Although we spoke Greek, his English was also excellent. Thank you for this incredible space honouring the suffering and of the Greeks of the Chalkidiki region. It was truly incredible. I highly recommend taking the time to visit. Although it is a small and only partially open museum, it manages to highlight interesting parts of the region's history. The has a small temporary exhibition dedicated to the heroic struggle for national independence of the region and an animated projection about the development of the armed uprising against the Ottoman occupation. It is a smart way to know and understand the local better. There is also a permanent exhibition about the artifacts and the of the beginning of the Christian era in the region. The is undergoing renovation. It will be fantastic when finished. The part which is open now shows a high degree of careful selection of objects which are well presented to give one a good idea of how things were back then. There is also a film with 180° surround projection telling the of the beginnings of the Greek rebellion against the Ottomans in 1821. There is sufficient parking space and clean toilets A beautiful in a stunning building. The permanent exhibition looks promising but is still in the early stages – it would be great to see it completed. The small temporary exhibit on the 1821 Revolution is well-done, featuring an impressive 180-degree animation with English subtitles. While the isn't yet a major destination for a full day trip, it has a lot of potential. The staff were incredibly friendly, and it's definitely worth a stop if you're passing by. Really nice experience if you’re in this region. Staying at Ikos Oceania there isn’t a great deal to do outside of the resort so finding this, accessible by a 1hr20min walk, was great. The buildings are beautifully renovated monastic farm buildings. One houses a collection of artefacts and some historical multilingual information boards. The next houses an excellent 180 degree display with a 20 minute explaining the of the Turkish invasion and Greek resistance during the 1821 revolution. This film is in Greek with English subtitles provided. The host were lovely and welcoming and very knowledgeable of the topic. It’s compact and won’t take more than an hour to explore it all. Would recommend if you enjoys learning a little about the of the area you’re visiting. The staff are incredibly kind and the videos are amazing! I highly recommend visiting to see what the has to offer—it’s already impressive and will be even more exciting once it’s complete. The place is very tidy and in general well-kept. At the moment most of the is closed due to renovations, which is normal. Nevertheless, the staff was kind and helped us when we needed it. The objects showcased were rather interesting and the was well-made—the was easy to follow, and if you didn't understand a part or struggled to comprehend the story, the wall behind it has a screen where the whole is explained with a timeline, which was a good help. This museum, even if currently under works, was a nice trip.
