Mårbacka

A very nice place to spend an afternoon. The guided tour is well worth the money (English tours at 11.30 and 14.30 during the summer), and the food in the cafe was surprisingly good. An attempt to recreate the oat pancake using some oat flour bought from the shop was not a great success, unfortunately. The estate has many ramps, so should be accessible for those using wheelchairs or who struggle with steps. Some of the translations in the exhibit in the workers' building at the bottom of the estate could do with redoing, as they read rather strangely. Nice little place where you can visit the house of the writer Selma Lagerlöf Beautiful house and garden. Guided tour was really good 👍 This is one of the places you just can't miss if you're in Värmland. It is a nice park and a building worth visiting. You can get a good cup of coffee or even a lunch here but do not miss a guided visit inside the building. The visit provides a nice introduction to the life of Selma Lagerlöf at Mårbacka but also the family history and the life of the employees at the time. Remember to book the visit in advance! During summer there are always a lot of people visiting this place. Very nice place, great guided tour. No photos allowed inside the house. I was surprised the other houses do not host more interesting exhibitions. The drive to the house on the eastern side was beautiful Very beautiful place. You can there for a long time widen Marbacka was a recommendation from a Swedish lady we met on our road trip through Sweden. If you plan to go there, do the tour through the main building. Otherwise you won't be able to go inside and see how Selma Lagerlöf lived there. We learned a lot about her and were impressed by her character and life. Plus the cafe offers a great snack/sandwich which we have never eaten before: a soft bread with potato salad, cucumber and tomato. It was delicious 😋 We visited Mårbacken with three children 2-10 y.o. All had something to do and the place was nice, exhibition about Swedish schools in the past was interesting. If you're near enough there place certainly worth a visit.
