Drive on the main road you will see a small parking area with board. Park the car there and walk to the next pole. You will see a track going up. Walk 5 mins you will reach the place. This place is hard to reach and you need to be prepared to get your vehicle dirty. Avoid getting there by car in case of rain, the road would be muddy. From the road, follow the sign and then follow the dirt road. Kokkinopilos is an amazing place, with nothing much like it in Greece. The colour of the sand is unique and you can park your vehicle towards the end of the track and roam freely around. Beware of the dogs and be prepared in case one shows up. Typical landscape which is a bit offroad. Road to reach this place is the same as most roads in Greece, terrible... The Kokkinopilos region of Preveza is a group of hills, 100-150 meters high, approximately 5 kilometers north of Filipiada.. Access to the Kokkinopilo hills of Preveza is from two points. The best one if you want to get there by by car is from the east 2 km south of the National Road of Ioannina Preveza, from the village of Agios Georgios. The area of Kokkinopilo, in addition to its intense geological interest of red dunes, also has archaeological importance as the archaeological research here discovered important findings that date back to the Bronze Age. Calculate 10 minutes to get there once you park and also around 30-40 minutes to walk around and take unbelievable pictures. Found the track near the tunnel and explored a bit of red dirt mounds, lovely colours. Absolutely stunning. If you go by Google with the car you will have problems with the street. There are no parking spots, it's a one way street with no option for turning. We almost killed our tented Peugeot, or should I say Peujeep since eventually she survived. Would park way outside and walk the route or come from a different side as suggested in some other reviews. Fortunately there was no one there, we visited end July during the week. Very pretty place to visit. Super nice for Instagram photos 😂 It's not an organized place, but although it's amazing and beautiful! Worth to stop and take photos if you're near the area! Something different you don't see everyday in Greece. A really beautiful and unique landscape. Not very easily accessible though. Your car will be full with red dust at the end, guaranteed. The road is narrow and there are only very few places where two cars can pass by each other. We had about only 5-6 cars on the hills, when we visited and even that gave us some logistical troubles. I can't imagine how a dozen or more cars could visit the place at the same time without major blockage. But it is definitely worth a visit if you are up for some adventure and/or a little hike, and don't mind some rough roads, and getting possibly lost a bit a couple times on the way there, because the scenery you will find you'll remember it for a lifetime. A captivating landscape that looks like a movie set or a landscape on Mars. Kokkinopilos is one of the favourite spots for photographers. Kokkinopilos can be reached by car on the Ioannina-Preveza motorway between Agios Georgios and Rizovouni. You can visit it on your own, there is no entrance fee. Nearby is also the Roman aqueduct built to supply the town of Nicopolis with water.
