Went for Sunday's dinner, really nice. Great food prices fresh hot brought to table, good range of drinks Very nice they had reserved part of the pub for us to sit in. I was there at the end of a day with my walking club. 🚶‍♂️🥾🥾🎒🎒🧥🧥🧤🧤 The day was fine till about 13.00 when the rain started and stayed for the rest of the day. The staff were very pleasant and helpful the Tyneside Blonde beer was very nice as was the Atlantic Pale. The chips 🍟 weren't too bad either. Thankyou very much to all concerned. Bit expensive and food isn't brilliant. Despite a recent refit there was a bad smell in the bar area. Disappointed with duck pizza and so was hubby who had the same. Son said the parmo was OK but had had better elsewhere. Overcharged but quickly sorted out when hubby spotted and went back to bar. Don't think we will be returning as for the prices can get better food elsewhere. Took my mother for her 82nd birthday, 6 of us in total. Service was spot on as was all of our meals, huge portions and really tasty. A great night was had by all of us. Went for the Sunday Roast...had the Beef dinner, it was lovely and very tasty. Got plenty of beef and a extra side of pigs in blankets. The food came out within 10 minutes of ordering... before the drinks even came. Took photos of the duo meat dinner as we went back again a few weeks later. Probably the best Sunday dinner I've had in a long time. 4.5 ☆ Our first visit to the pub and won't be the last! Very well laid out pub with a lovely fresh and clean feel. The option was brilliant. There was a kids menu, a lunch menu, and a full menu. Service was slightly on the slow side but all staff were extremely friendly!! The kids loved the little outdoor park. Main criticism would be staff should ask if condiments are wanted, as getting someones attention to get some was a bit difficult due to how busy it was. Food arrived promptly and was very tasty. Was also nice to see bathrooms were kept very clean and smelt brilliant - this can often be a downfall for a lot of pubs Great pub I've been a customer here on and off for a lot of years. Admittedly disappointed some months ago when they took Moretti off and tried to replace it with the pig swill that is Madri (I'd rather punch myself with a strap brick than indulge in drinking this dishwater of a lager) ... However Staropramen is also on offer, and whilst not the nectar or Moretti, it is decent enough. Last night myself and my daughter called for food and the food was excellent and the service outstanding. It was a busy satury night, they found us a table despite this, food was served quickly, price was excellent, and the food was really good. I had pork loin with peppercorn from the special board which had bags of flavour. Chips were superb. My daughter had pizza, which although was bigger than her torso (she is only 7) she had a go at it and said the pepperoni was top notch. Staff were absolutely lovely ... Even showing my daughter to the female toilets and giving her a hand when she couldn't stop activate one of the taps lol. Highly recommended this place since it's been taken over. Hopefully they stay local focused and don't go the route of many local pubs closing early if quiet etc. If they look after the customer long term then this place is onto a winner! EDIT visit 2 Fish and chip Friday 2 for £20 phenomenal value! Photos added. Fish superb. Batter light and crispy. Chips excellent. EDIT visit 3 (one week later) Fish & Chips Friday special price raised to £24 (20% increase) alongside numerous price rises across the menu. Some specials removed (including the excellent pork loin) and starting to look less competitive for lunch. Limited smaller plate lunch available. Frustrating to see after a number of recent visits. Food wise fish much thinner and had a slightly odd after taste Chips still excellent. Batter slightly overcooked this time and heavier. No staff asked if the food was ok during this visit even when collected and half was left on the plate. Absolutely beautiful food. Friendly staff. Quiet and calm atmosphere. Nothing to grumble about. Fast service. Overall a really meal out on a Monday evening 🙂 Food was very I was pleasantly surprised it was a find. Parmo was lovely and my partner enjoyed hers. It was busy and quite loud which isn’t to my preference so will try to make it a less busy time on my next visit. I've loved this place for over forty years now even though I only drop in occasionally these days. It's expanded in size a lot since I first came here for a couple of pints with mates and having a Saturday lunchtime pint with my Dad but it's been done in a way that doesn't make it feel like a barn, there are lots of smaller areas which make it more intimate. The food is always enjoyable but lately my main focus is coming for a plate of fish & chips. My friend enjoys the parmos, my aunt loves the Bao buns which she has as a main with a portion of chips and is enough for her. My only criticism of the food is the lack of more chicken dishes but that's my own personal taste. There's always a pint of beer at the bar and a warm ambiance throughout the place. Quite busy but had a booking. Fish and chips batter was soggy and swimming in oil. Complaint got a half hearted 'sorry'. Been there before and it was so an off day? Traveled up here from Preston Lancashire on business and called in for lunch , wife had scampy I had fish , it was without doubt the best fish and chip and scampi and chips we have ever had , well worth trying !
