If there is one thing you do this summer and that is to attend Kynren. It is a spectacular that allows you to see England through the ages in particular in Bishop Auckland. Complete with farmyard actors, horses, fire, fireworks, water scenes. It's an worth going to. I'm surprised that I have not come across something like this in the South of England. Truly spectacular! An epic production involving hundreds of actors, incredible effects, music, lighting, props, and horses jumping over fire, a chap dragged by horses and fiery arrows. Incredible. The food hall was super well organised and such great volunteers helping and pointing the way in the site. The only downside was too much of a to see the viking and a bit of a to walk out after. Such a fab experience. Highly recommend! Stunning show. Beautiful location, wonderfully choreographed and spectacular light shows and fireworks. We parked at the College Ride which was fast and convenient. The management of the event was so slick and professional and staff were friendly and helpful. The at the Viking interacted wonderfully with the visitors and the meal outlets and restaurants worked hard to make sure you didn’t have to too long. To say the venue holds 8000 per then I was amazed at how easy it was to get in and leave back to the and ride. Great experience. My advice would be 1) get there as soon as it opens to avoid longer food queues, 2) get in to see the Viking at least an hour before the main event as they shot it about 45 mins before to allow to change 3) use the and ride parking as it’s so easy to arrive and get away avoiding the event traffic at the site 4) it’s open air so bring waterproofs if weather looks a bit dodgy and 5) the main lasts 90 mins and the seats are small and hard so if you aren’t padded in the rump then maybe padded seat cushions might be an option to bring along unless you aren’t in VIP seats. The seats are quite narrow too so if you are wide or very legged then vip might be a better option. Great evenings entertainment though. This is a fantastic experience. From the parking and shuttle buses to the site, and return to the car park, the is so well managed, professional- mostly volunteer staff!- and the so slick. Amazing, a must go to experience. A very impressive show, all outdoors, but we had a dry clear evening. Very well organised, fantastic effects, large cast. I would definitely recommend booking ASAP as they only do a few shows each year The was absolutely fabulous, so well put together, the actors, the animals, the fireworks and lighting. The props and scenery was beautiful. lots of photo opportunities too! 100% will be coming to watch again and recommending every else does too! Take a coat or blanket as it did get cold later on. So I went bank holiday weekend so its no surprise it was rammed. Few points to mention on it being busy... - I'd get there early if you are wanting food and a table to eat at, gets very busy very quickly. - The seating is quite cramped and you are literally shoulder to shoulder and you have to keep getting up and walking off the row when arrive to be seated as there is no room to walk by and certainly not safe enough to stand and lean over. - Make sure you get the shuttle so much easier to and from, especially as I took my 5 month old baby. ques but that is to be expected and made sure you drop a pin on maps where you're parked🫣 - The viking was good, just wish there weren't so many in, was really busy and hard to engage in anything as couldn't get close to the barriers to see much. The was very entertaining and incredibly well put together. It's that everyone is a volunteer. The viking was also entertaining but could do with allowing to enter earlier to avoid the massive queue. Village is scenic, food stalls are fast and well organized. All the food and merchandise is reasonably priced. I would regret it if i diddnt come and see it. Kynren was hands down one of the most fascinating performances I’ve ever witnessed. From the moment it began, I was swept away by the colors, vibrancy, and sheer energy of the show. What amazed me most was how a simple, barren ground was transformed into a living, breathing stage full of life and history. The scale of the was breathtaking.The number of performers, the richness of the set, and even the real animals brought a sense of authenticity that made me feel like I had truly stepped back in time. The sight of horses galloping across the arena was simply spectacular and gave me goosebumps. Every detail was carefully thought out, and the production quality was outstanding. In totality, it was truly bang for your buck! A grand, immersive that stays with you after it ends. A must-visit for everyone, whether you love history, theatre, or just want to be amazed. It was absolutely wonderful! I loved every second of the show. A few things to keep in mind and be aware of: - the to get drinks or snack can get very long - the seats are actually quite narrow and not the most comfortable - the exit is a little chaotic (we were send to the wrong for the shuttle back to the town centre and only found out by the time we were at the front of the queue, we could bear the thought of queueing for another 30mins so we decided to walk instead. BUT even though the above was a tad frustrating, I would still give 10 stars to the overall 😍 Absolute spectacle. Visited for the first of the year and everything was impeccable except for the fact they forgot to put up the sign for the car early enough on the way in so pretty much everyone was going right past and turning into the wrong bit, then going back up and around a couple of roundabouts to get back. Otherwise, very well organised. Show itself was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen, don't know how they did half of it. Lots of animals, water, incredible effects, hundreds of and random objects rising from the ground. I didn't get a picture of it because I was too busy marvelling at it, but the way they depicted Durham Cathedral with the water and light to create these ethereal arches like holograms in the air was one of the most incredible things I've seen in my life. Preshow was also good, the Viking was superb and they were all willing to have a chat about what they were doing and why. Drinks and snacks weren't too pricey and the queues weren't too long. After the the for the shuttle bus was quite but moved quickly, got out of the car about an hour after the having gone to the loo, got the shuttle and then waited to get out of the car park. I don't know how they did it. Everything is so well organised. The food is really good (recommend the Gourmet sausage) the Staff are lovely, the itself is a spectacle and almost brought me to tears. The actors, the animals, so well trained and drilled. This is pure performance, and a beautifully told story that encapsulates the history of England. The was much much more than we expected! Our 11 years old son told us that he was watching completely everything from the start to the end (which is very unusual for young generation:) Extremely interesting, a lot of action, animals, fireworks. Great for the whole family! Wow!!! What an show. I want to come back every year. No ward work went unnoticed. To the actors, to behind the scenes, even the bin men! The fact this is all done by volunteers makes this even better! I attended one of these shows last weekend, and while the itself was visually stunning and clearly the result of a huge amount of hard work, I felt very let down by the pre-show experience. The Viking — one of the things I was most looking forward to — had already closed well before the began, which was really disappointing. On top of that, access to food and drink was extremely limited. What little was available either had very queues or had already stopped serving. I also found it frustrating that the website states not to bring in a drink, reusable aluminium bottles are not allowed, so I was forced not to bring one. Once inside, I then couldn’t access a drink easily, which made the evening a lot less enjoyable. Be prepared to for almost an hour to access basic amenities. Another point worth mentioning is the seating. The stadium-style seats are very, very slim and uncomfortable, which made sitting through a quite difficult. Finally, despite announcements asking not to smoke, there were several e-cigarettes being used in the audience during the show. This was unpleasant and distracting, and it really took away from the experience. I completely understand that running large-scale events is challenging, but clearer communication about what is open and when — along with better access to basic amenities, more comfortable seating, and stricter enforcement of the no-smoking policy — would make a huge difference. I hope this feedback can help improve the for future visitors. What a fantastic show! The whole family absolutely loved it. The combination of projections on the fountains, pyrotechnics, animals and fireworks was just WOW. A real must-see for all ages. Getting there was simple. We parked in the Green car park, which I believe is the furthest away, but it has a shuttle bus service. We arrived just after opening and there were seven double-decker buses lined up ready to take down the road. It only took about 5 minutes. Walking was an option, but we chose the shuttle. Because we were early, we avoided the huge queues and got through the ticket stands quickly. Inside, there’s a wide range of food and drink stalls. At the bottom of the site, we visited the Viking where costumed really brought the history to life. It doesn’t take to walk through (less than 10 minutes), but it was enjoyable watching the woodworkers and blacksmiths in action. Now to the itself. Seating is very tight, so if you end up next to a larger person it can feel uncomfortable. We sat in the Deluxe area which has standard seats, while the VIP section appeared to have slightly better seating with a little more space. The was truly spectacular. There was something happening everywhere at once and from the central Deluxe/VIP seating area we had a great view of everything. My head was constantly turning during the 1.5 hour performance, trying not to miss a single detail. As expected, the exit was slow with the mass of leaving, but the Kenryn team were fantastic, cheerfully guiding everyone with pole lights and clear directions. We joined the bus but quickly decided to walk back to the car instead. For the able-bodied it took about 20 minutes uphill. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone less mobile, but it was quicker than waiting for a bus. Once back, staff in the car were efficiently directing traffic and we were out in no time. Overall, Kenryn is a brilliant experience, wonderfully run by a dedicated and friendly team. The itself is unforgettable and well worth making the trip for. The Kynren was amazing!! I went with my partner and family and loved it. We saw the live show/reenactment which was great. Seeing the volunteers riding the horses and charging them down the path and jousting the boards was fun to watch and the water light show. Definitely going next year and going back in time watching the cast showing working and living life in past eras ❤️🔥✨️ Loved the show, great story telling, lighting, fireworks, the moving stage parts. Don’t want to spoil it by saying too much but definitely a great and worth every penny to watch. Some more about the the place, we arrived early, 5:45pm, zero problems parking, lots of staff around to help. We chose to walk down from the car park, there is busses available but the scenery is fantastic and it’s a nice stroll. Getting in took a few minutes for us but the crowds do build the later you arrive. We headed straight for food, again very short wait time. Limited food and drinks menu but what we did buy was nice, Sausage in a bun, 2 chips, curry and rice. Couple of waters, pop and red wine came to around £35. Viking was next and I wish we had went straight there, if you do go, best to get in as early as you can as the is long. Another fantastic addition, the playing the vikings are engaging and funny, plenty of chances for photos. Not a negative as it’s unavoidable but if you’re in a hurry to leave, you’ll be disappointed. What an place. Really enjoyed the show, very informative and engaging. Lots of suprises on the lake! Only gripe is that the seats are too small / closely packed together. Oh, and take a warm jacket and hat as it gets nippy when its dark! Absolutely show! Congratulations to everyone involved putting together this historic event! Got there a little earlier and had some food and drink, which is all reasonably priced. We also enjoyed walking through the viking village. The itself is amazing. The music, lighting, and effects are second to none, I have to say one of my highlights was the horses and there riders absolutely outstanding. Everyone involved with the is what makes it five star. Fantastic experience. Really enjoyed the and food even before the started. Few things to note... Very fairly priced food and drinks and good portion size. It gets cold so bring warm things like a blanket, hat and gloves etc. Getting out took well over an hour, including the for the bus, and to leave the car park, so be prepared for a wait to get home.
