You can also reach the mountain hut by e-bike. My husband then went on foot to the top of Naafkopf (the tripoint), which took him about 50 minutes, while I enjoyed the sunshine on the terrace with a cup of ginger tea. Payment is only accepted in cash. We did the lovely 995 Fürstin-Gina-Weg circular route from Malbun. It was a superb walk and about half way round, after most of the ascent, we stopped here. The food was wonderful, I recommend the rostis. We had our own food for the walk, but after a wet cold walk this place was a welcome haven. We tried, of course, our poor German, but the staff were able to speak excellent English. They were very friendly. I would love to come back to Lichtenstein and do more walking and stay here as part of a lodger tour. Unfortunately we only had a day to taste the walking, but it was really worth it! Despite a strenuous ascent through the rain, the way to the hut was worth it! The hosts were all very nice and the dinner and breakfast delicious! Fortunately, we were able to walk on the Naafkopf the next morning. The path is exhausting but for a good view it is a must! I also recommend the way from the hut via Augustenberg back to Malbun rather than the other direction, as it only goes up steeply once and otherwise comfortably down. Next time i‘ll bring my friends here for a fun hike and staying experience :) A very atmospheric and peaceful place, perfect for relaxing after a hike. Important note: payment on site only in cash! Stunning location to find after 90 minute tough hike from Malbun as an experienced hiker. Staff were chatty, charming and helpful. Cash only cafe/bar/restaurant so don’t miss out on a delightful coffee with a gorgeous view for free! I will be back to stay the night. From here 2 hours up and back to get to the tri-country point at the summit of Naafkopf. Well worth it on a clear day. This was my first experience staying at an alpine hut and it didn’t disappoint! After a short but steep hike up, this place is a sight for sore eyes. René was very funny and welcoming, and he and his helpers make a great meatloaf. 🍽️ It was fun and cozy getting to read my book and watch the Eurocup after a long travel day. I believe there were showers as well, but bring a towel, sandals, and cash! Proceed with caution. This could easily be perceived as a scam. €102 Euros will get you a cabbage soup, 2 carrots for main, and rice pudding for dessert. They claim the water on site is undrinkable whilst exploiting hikers for bottled water. If you want a shower, back luck - you can share a cold water sink wash in a basement room with other hikers wading in the puddles left behind. You should also be prepared to remain off-grid during your stay - wifi is reserved for the staff and the only place for mobile signal is a 50m climb up the nearest summit. The breakfast “buffet” is ok - expect a choice of muesli, granola, and porridge, with some stale bread and cheese, but remember that the flies eat first (I’m surprised they weren’t charged as well). We left feeling stinky, malnourished, and ripped off. The only redeeming quality was the view, but at with a price steeper than the ascent to the hut, I would avoid this hut where possible. After 3 hours of hiking we were greeted with an appalling 2 carrots and a handful of beans for dinner. The breakfast in the morning wasn’t any better offering only bread and stale cheese. This wouldn’t be too bad if we weren’t charged franks for the night. The water is also unsinkable according to the staff and if you want a drink you have to pay 8 franks for the privilege (price is subject to how they feel on the day) Definitely wouldn’t recommend !!
