Oh Iceland 🇮🇸 Look… it’s a nice small with everything you need. Arrival was smooth, and baggage came quickly. However, the departure process was a mess. Between 7:20 and 7:40 AM, about 15 flights take off, (busy morning schedules) causing overcrowding at check-in. The self-check-in system led to chaos, as hundreds tried to drop off luggage, 🤣 but only two out of three machines worked. So take note not all machines are working and they say technology is the way to go 🤷‍♀️ However, if machines are not working this creates long security lines, delaying most flights. To avoid stress, check in the night before if possible or arrive at least 3 hours early to settle in. Especially if morning time to be on the safe side. 90% of the reviews HERE and pictures are actually for a wrong place (THIS IS NOT KEF airport). THIS is RKV Domestic airport. KEF is the international for Iceland, 50 minutes drive from this tiny Domestic airport. This Airport, Reykjavík (RKV) is a tiny domestic in downtown Reykjavík. Almost only for domestic Iceland flights. So please before adding your review be sure if it is for RKV downtown (this one) or the big one international KEF in Reykjanes peninsula (50 minutes away). Nice, clean, lots of bathrooms and food options. The gates are weird in that some are just a line along a wall. The food was good and there were a variety of options. I liked how they kept the bathrooms. There were multiple shops for Icelandic items, too. We were here for a layover so we had to go through customs. That was messy but ended up fine. Easy, simple, small airport. Bag check doesn't open until 45 minutes before so you don't need to be there long before your flight. There are luggage lockers available here too. Beautiful new with lots of great technology although don’t try to buy and I slam a hotdog on your way out as all the signs read only for arrivals, we were perplexed as we were starving. Going through customs was very easy and quick as there was no line when we arrived. It’s a smaller and easy to navigate. Don’t forget to take a picture by the exit to Iceland sign! However arrived at 7.30am for my and sign in window states opens one hour before first flight. Be aware as this means standing/ sitting on the floor outside with just you and the elements. The in general is quiet and the checkpoints are fast. opens 1 hour before the first flight. There's a convenience store that sells snack, drinks, fruits and a few other knick knacks. Lovely airport,very easy to navigate and polite staff. Cheap and cheerful 4 day 5 night holiday at under £500 with northern light and whale watching included. We stayed at the IKEA hotel close to the cathedral. Compact but tidy and has what you need. The food and drinks in the area are extremely expensive even in supermarkets, so either be prepared to spend or take your own dried food items with you. The hotel staff helped us book a day tour to local waterfalls and geysers for under £40 per person,which is definitely worth it! We visited the beautiful cathedral and learnt some of its history. Also spent a few hours whale watching on a small boat again, very polite staff and environment. Saw some amazing sites of whales with the mountains in the background. Northern lights tour is a must, definitely need your thermals on with standing around for so long in such cold temperatures. We were here 1 hour before the but the did not open. The aiprort opened at 8.20 am, don’t come too soon. Hope we will have a safe today. Great ambience, neat and airport, washrooms are also and well maintain though the is too big but you have too many domestic and international connectivity.can't say about the food as I didn't get the chance to eat there but overall the experience is good We were flying from Munich to Toronto, connecting at Iceland Airport, and encountered some truly outrageous ground handling. Upon arrival in Iceland, we needed to board a shuttle bus. We walked to the door with my four-year-old daughter, and just as she was about to lift her foot onto the door step, the door half-closed and then opened again. I later told the driver that this could injure the child, but he arrogantly told me it was none of his business. This is a place I will never pass by or visit again. It's completely inhumane.
