Visited as part of the Interceltique Festival and enjoyed a wonderful programme. Sight lines and sound quality were both great but we found the seats both narrow and lacking in back support for the almost 3 hour show. Great for the festival interceltique. Great and team My first experience of attending a match outside of England and one that was well worth the effort. The has excellent facilities all round under the stands, serving food and drink. Service was quick and friendly and items on sale were the usual standard. French is going through turbulent times, in part due to the influence of the TV companies which affected the atmosphere in the first half which was very quiet. Fortunately the second half picked up and the 10,000 plus fans got the rocking which was a very positive influence on the game. All in all an enjoyable evenings entertainment in facilities that put those at some English clubs into sharp perspective of what you get for your money, especially as a seat for the game was a mere €7. It is also recognised for its football: Stade Rennais, Stade Brestois, En Avant de Guingamp and FC Lorient are teams that have each, in their own way, made an impression on French football. For Lorient, this includes a cup win in 2002, a triumph that would have been impossible a couple of years earlier. FC Lorient was founded in 1926, but it wasn’t until 1998 that the made its debut in Ligue 1. Up to that point the team had led a rather anonymous life in the country’s lower divisions. The journey upwards through the divisions began in 1991, when Christian Gourcuff began his second spell as coach at the club. The team won the third division title and reached Ligue 1 within six years. The club’s greatest success came, however, in the first year without Gourcuff at the helm. The 2001/02 season did end with relegation, but also with two cup finals. In the less prestigious league Cup, Lorient scrambled through to the final, where Bordeaux were too strong (Lorient lost 3-0). In the French Cup, however, the team were immortalised by beating Bastia in the final at the Stade de France – a title that wasn’t just the club’s first but would also take them into Europe for the first time. Since then there have been no more titles, but the managed to get themselves back into Ligue 1 in 2006, again thanks to Christian Gourcuff. They stayed there for 11 years before being relegated again in the spring of 2017. Parking nearby is restricted but we found a street less than 10 minutes walk away to leave the car in. Pretty standard experience although unlike in the UK you can drink pitch side (The bars sell plastic glasses for 1 Euro which is refundable if you return them). We were supporting the home team - the away section is a tiny standing terrace in one corner and didn't look like much fun for the (very) few away fans who turned up.
