Unique Structure - Taka the time to it ! Built in 1990, the is ingeniously constructed around an Almohad-period cistern—an 18-meter-deep well with a spiral staircase and three access windows—now a nationally recognized monument. It also incorporates a segment of the medieval city walls. Is It Worth Visiting? Absolutely—for archaeology enthusiasts, history lovers, or curious travelers, this packs a rich narrative of human settlement, layered civilizations, and medieval heritage into one compact and thoughtfully curated space. That Almohad cistern alone is worth the trip! Based on one visit: Nice little museum. You can buy a combo ticket for here and the at the door. Nicely designed around a cistern or well, covers from Stone age up through the time of the nearby. For the modern artifacts sprinkled throughout the cases. Nice little with artefacts such as stone tools and ceramic vessels from many different eras. The highlight is a moorish well, which is very impressive. A small entry fee applies. The Municipal Archaeology in Silves is a charming and educational spot that’s absolutely worth a visit. It’s not very large, but it’s beautifully curated, with a fascinating collection that offers a glimpse into the region’s rich history — from ancient artefacts to insights about the daily life of past civilizations in the Algarve. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the museum. They’re always happy to answer questions and share stories that bring the exhibits to life, which makes the experience even more engaging. The space itself is calm and well laid out, blending modern presentation with the historical feel of Silves. It’s a lovely stop if you’re exploring the town — interesting, peaceful, and full of local character. A great little that proves you don’t need to be huge to leave a lasting impression. Interesting enough but limited in what is has to show. Nicely laid out with very friendly staff. Really cheap entry fee and I think it can be combined with a to the so worth a if you are in the area when combining with a to the castle. Added this place to the castelo de Silves ticket. Apparently a lot of people are unsure if they arrived to the correct place after they the castle. Originally the building was going to be a cafe until they started excavating and found the well. Then they built the archaeological around the well. Cool little add on to the castle. This is a great museum. I liked the chronology of the excavations presented. I think it will be interesting for both children and adults. A delightful local museum. A full run through from the pre stone age to the middle ages of local finds. Glad we came. An unassuming town, but I have fond memories of the day trip. Wow. This is a must. What an education. It starts from over 5000 years BC right through the ages and different civilisations showing artefacts and examples of pottery, coins and implements etc. Be prepared to spend a couple of hours there to do it justice. There is so much to see. Air conditioned and toilets too. Interesting little museum. Worth a if you are interested in archeology. Small but nice and pleasant with many interesting artifacts, mainly found in the Silves castle. They have a very cool historical well you can look inside of and many giant pots inside. Highly recommend if you are interested in Medieval or Roman history, or just looking for something fun to do in Silves!
