Lovely little nature area. There are several picnic tables and a few old forts and military bunkers left over from past wars. It’s right on the coast with a although mostly muddy estuary, not much by way of sand. Popular place with dog walkers and families looking for adventures. It's a coastal path in the Isle of Grain. There's a small car park next to a section of grassland right next to the mud flats or the shingle beach. If you need any last minute drinks or food then there is a Co-op and a newsagent on the road as you come towards the car park. The path sees a lot of walkers and day trippers wanting some fresh air. The sea wall reaches round the head land quite a way (didn't measure it) - took me 10 min steady cycling (slow speed to be safe). There are grassy public footpaths after the viable sea wall ends which leads to a dead end but they are a nice route on a sunny day. On a good day you have a great view of the boats coming in and out of the local water ways. When the tide is in and the sun is out you get a few paddle boarders and the like. On the way in by car you pass the well known fuel storage and power station, pass a lot of farmland and through a lot of reedy marshland studded with patches of open water. The industrial aspect aside, it's great for bird spotting and insect hunting. So I'm told. I really only come here by bicycle. It's a great trip to stretch the legs and get some wind through your hair. The roads can be busy but not dangerously so and it has an average speed control of 40 mph; pick your time and there are very few lorries. What a beautiful place to visit. Its very quiet here, barely anyone on the beach. A place to sit and watch the world (and the shios) go by! There's a free carpark, but remember to stop at the co-op just before the car park to pick up snacks and drinks as there isn't anything near the beach. I know this place as Cockleshell Bay. I came across it several years ago. To me it is stunning in it's austerity. Fantastic vista across the Thames Estuary and River Medway. High or Low Tide the difference is stunning. Great efforts have been made to make it Visitor friendly. There are seats and benches. There are mown areas and areas left wild. You can walk along the sea wall defenses, nice and flat. Watch the boats at High Tide or the Waders at Low Tide. Look across to Sheerness,not forgetting the Watch Tower and looking the other way Southend. It can be starkly beautiful as is the drive to the bay. Ignore or marvel at the industrial sites,me,I love 'em. Contrast is the word. I love this place as an escape.It is so quiet and everyone you meet says"Hello" A hidden gem. Let's hope it doesn't get spoilt. Get your trainers on or take a flask and sit on the benches and admire the Big Sky. Really isolated, quiet and non touristy. Great place for some real English countryside and lovely to have the place to myself on a slightly rainy winters day. I love it here. It's so quiet, so peaceful. Clean and tidy and any people we see are lovely! It's a nice with a mixture of stones and sand - so fit for any purpose. When the tides in my dog loves to splash around in the water. Not only is there the but also a nice walk along the side next to the water, and some grass and forest type walking if you desire. Easy to find, lots of bins around so don't have to carry rubbish far and some picnic tables and benches if you didn't want to sit on the beach. Only thing is there aren't any toilets here, but there's a pub not too far down the road which is nice to sit on for a quick drink and loo break and its also dog friendly. There is also coop just down the road if you fancied some sandwiches or an ice cream. Lovely area, went on a short 3 mile+ bike ride along the coastal path, some lovely views too Nice stroll along the beach, relatively flat pavement. Community keeps it very tidy and rubbish free.
