Konoba Bani

Pazin, Croatia Restaurant

Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Contrary to the expectations based on reviews, everything was mediocre. The service was exceedingly kind and also slow, even though we were almost the only guests. The food was average, palatable yet below expectations for such a highly rated place. We loved this place! I was trying to find a traditional Croatian restaurant that offers vegetarian options, for a special anniversary. Found it! We were really Hungry by the time we got there, which is really risky, as many places think they offer veggie food if they give you a tuna salad... (Talking from previous experience). We were so positively surprised!! The owner has been vegetarian for many years, and now tries to continue the family tradition, but also offer vegetarian and vegan dishes. You already know she understands different diets by the questions she asks, it was very relaxing. She also has daily changing veg items. We had something like burek as a starter, cheese platter, soup, pasta dishes, desert. Simple, nice comfort food - everything super tasty, very kind service - just what I was looking for. We hope to visit again, it was well worth the scenic drive there! Average food, nothing special. The Truffle pasta is not made with fresh grated black truffles, but rather with artificially flavored Tartufata and shavings of conserved wet truffles from a jar as a garnish on top. The sliced wet truffle garnish had absolutely no flavor and the entire dish is loaded with cream. This explains the €16 price for such a large portion. They should be more honest with the menu and clearly state that it is tartufata and not fresh grated truffles. (Many people like Tartufata, but others do not) The homemade pjukanci was very good. The ravioli was ok but did not taste homemade, also loaded with cream and heavy. Service was excellent, very warm and friendly and the dessert was nice. They even brought us grappa on the house. This is more of a large scale touristic facility and function hall. The surrounding hills outside and scenery is beautiful, but inside it feels cold, barren, and cavernous. Not cozy, like most Istrian konobas. Huge tables that are clearly meant for large organized tour groups. Not bad, just average. If you do go, I recommend sticking to simple dishes. Avoid the “truffle” pasta until they change their recipe to fresh grated. Average fore meal, but excellent home made pasta. I recommend pasta with prusciutto. Very good value for money. We found this place through google maps after a nearby walk. We were absolutely amazed. The atmosphere was wonderful with life music where everyone who knew the songs would join in, sing and clap. The food portions were huge and very very tasty! Lots of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Prices were absolutely great considering the portion size and quality of food. Wonderful food and outstanding service. Loved it! Beautiful surroundings and friendly staff. Super delicious homemade/istrian food. Very good options also for vegan people. The staff was very nice and friendly as well. The prices were also super fair! Definitely a recommendation and we want to go there again. Beautiful location and great to see such a rich menu, also with many different vegan options (amazing!). I tried the seitan steak and it was delicious. Truly a restaurant for everyone.
