Stunning collection of woodlands, grasslands and traditional parks surrounded on many sides by countryside. Very generous provision of free car parks and toilet facilities. Plenty of benches and picnic tables around the parks. We spent pretty much the whole day there, exploring different parts and still ha be plenty of new areas to visit next time. The woodlands and large open spaces are great for dogs, lots of space to run. Lovely bit of Essex, well maintained for full access public amenity. Lovely place, this car has toilets conveniently placed. You can in most directions, away from cars with lovely views. Lovely place Lovely country with beautiful deciduous woodlands and large meadows to come for a long stretch with family, friends or your furry friends. There are lots of benches to sit, relax and enjoy the of the lands below. There are good of the Thames estuary and only five minutes to the centre of Basildon. The main attraction for us was of course the Vange well No.5. Vange well No.5 or commonly known as Mr Edwin Cash's well is situated on the Langdon Hills ridge at the edge of Martinhole Wood, off One Tree Hill, just inside the parish of Fobbing. This area is part of the Langdon Hills Country Park. It took us about 10 min to get there. Mr Edwin Cash, a retired publican of the Angel Pub, Islington, ran the Vange Mineral Water Co., from 1919 to 1924. Edwin Cash, former licensee of the ‘Angel’ in Islington. His company Vange Water Co. Ltd. bottled the water which had been tested and shown to have a high mineral content. The business unfortunately has stopped due to believed possibility of spring water could be affected by the West Ham TB Hospital. Since that time, sadly, it has been left to fall into decay and the woods have now engulfed it. Even though it is now a ruin, it is easy to imagine it in its heyday when it resembled a small, domed, classical temple. There are also two cars parks, open from 8am to dusk and they are free of charge, toilets facilities with disabled access, picnic area, horse and cycle rides and of course viewpoints. Walks are mostly well signposted. Definitely recommend it! Really nice open space with great to the Thames. Was competing in area. Needed a shady for dogs. Beautiful memories of my childhood This place is beautiful. There is free parking. However, all the toilets were shut, and with 3 little ones, it meant we had to leave earlier than planned as they needed the loo. We drove to another car but the toilets were shut too. Which was disappointing. The paths are not wheelchair friendly as there are stairs and narrow pathways through the bushes and forest. We managed a short but turned back as it was exhausting with a pram. There are beautiful from the top of the stairs, but unfortunately, people had picnics and left their rubbish behind, and there were flies everywhere, so we couldn't fully enjoy the spot. Would have loved to have sat down and enjoyed the space. There are a few picnic tables near the car park. All shaded under the tree, makes a nice spot on a hot day. Beautiful place, great walks. Quite a few open fields. Tracks for horses, people and dogs. Lovely park, bigger than it first appears. Toilet block, few car parks available along the access road. Lovely views, good for tree climbing and lots of lovely mud in wet weather! Well-established trails, good for dog-walking and being close to nature. There is a free car park. Been walking my dog here for 2 / 3 years and always shocked by the state of the holes in the even though their seems to be multiple rangers that empty bins I think a better use of their would be to fill in the holes (they are dangerous and on the main field where you naturally walk) they are along the bit that is cut so assume my partner wasnt the first to fall into one of these (hard to see when the grass is longer) the injury sustained was painful beyond words and even 3 weeks after it occured the ankle is weak and painful, the first hours / days it was unbearable pain stopping work / exercise and sleep. If an older / more frail person when into one of these holes I fear they could have 'permanently damaged' / injured themselves. Please mr Rangers fill in these holes (they are not badger sets or anything 'natural') and have been there years so assume many have hurt their ankles like my partner (see photos of injuries) Beautiful area for walking and some lovely views. There are paths around the green and trails through the ancient wood. Big open spaces for families and friends to enjoy. Also great muddy puddles:) New photos added. I’ve travelled all over the world and I think this is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I for miles and miles with my dog here. So many routes you can do. I don’t think people realise how beautiful Basildon can be. 🤣 Check it out if you like woodland, nature and stunning landscapes. Great towards the Thames. Mud, trees and hills. Oh yeah. You can often see me shouting for my dog over here, and I don't even have a dog!
