My main interest here is the museum of the Connacht Rangers. The Rangers were one of nine Irish regiments that served the Empire throughout the world. In serving the Empire they did little for the misfortunates who lived in the colonies where the Rangers were sent. King is magnificent on many levels. The staff are friendly, cooperative and well informed. The exhibitions are and clearly presented. There are sidelines for those interested in the structure. There is a display dedicated to Maureen O'Sullivan and, it hosts a gallery of local art that is worth seeing. The entrance price is quite low for the amount on display. The interactive waxworks are not my scene but are brilliant. There is a coffee shop and a farmers' market in the grounds too. Run by the OPW and has some informative guides who will give you an introduction to the and a Brief and then leave you to a self guided walk around the building. No gift shop in the building but there is a small shop and cafe outside the front doors which seemed very busy. Worth a stop. Takes around 60 mins to walk around and read everything. Unusual historical house... Connaught Rangers items, gifts given by other countries to Irish Presidents.... Good exposition, especially during Boyle Arts Festival! A fascinating with a marvellous sense of history. Very well put together with some very exhibits within the house. I highly recommend you do this and Boyle Abbey tour. Both our guides were very knowledgeable and had an obvious interest in the subject matter. Then have nice food in the Tea Room at King House. We arrived just as a concert was about to start. £5 included tea/coffee and biscuits as well as a very performance by visiting musicians from Romania. We also had a view of some of the permanent exhibition of the King family residence with all sorts of multimedia models paintings and artifacts. Set in the middle of Boyle, this building has a dominant view over the whole town and its river Boyle. A really enjoyable couple of hours exploring the of King and the King Family. Well worth a to enjoy the beautiful architecture, the restored contains lots of educational resources, ceramics, furniture and displays to keep you interested. Thanks to Thomas who provided us with this afternoons tour, an absolute fountain of knowledge who added real value to our visit! Stumbled upon King and it was definitely worth a visit. Reasonable entry for a self guided but we had a young man give us great detailed information before we went around the house. You could tell he was extremely passionate and knowledgable about the local area and of the which was an unexpected bonus. The itself was very impressive and it was really to see the part of the attic un plastered and left how the workers found it before its restoration. Really enjoyed the quirky toy pigeons and mice hidden around the place. The jail cells were a great way of showing the different uses of the over time. You could spend as much or as little time around the as you wanted but there really is much to read and see. We arrived to a sign on the door saying that the was closed for a private function. We were welcomed in however and got to sit in on a wonderful recital by the harpist Claire Roche. What a bonus. The is beautifully restored and it's hard to believe that before restoration their were trees growing in the dining room. Our very informative guide Aisling gave us a fascinating and amusing account of it's history. Very accessible and well laid out, I didn't use my carers card so not sure if that's accepted. We didn't see the ghost of the green lady though so we might have to revisit! Top Class ...
