What a delightful, quirky little "village". This was a way to spend a few hours. There's a nice, homely cafe and a giftshop at the entrance and we were given a warm welcome by the ticket lady who very helpfully spoke English to us! The place is set out in different areas, with a farrier/blacksmith's workshop, a windmill with workshop, a shoemaker's, an automotive repair shop, a 60's/70's section, a photographer's , a schoolroom and many more areas filled with period items such as tools and other interesting antiquities and toys. There's a garden with a chapel in it too. There's something of interest for all ages and it seems that there are activities to engage children (no children in our party and the activities were in French) Although the info was in French, it didn't spoil our enjoyment - it was interesting to see the huge collection of items (large and small) that had been curated here. It was nice to see lots of scenes representing people at work, school, bar or church. Great to bring children they have lots of things to discover. Dinner can be served but only on reservation. Souvenirs shop also available. Worth a visit if you are in Calais area and you want something different. Enjoyed! We spent a really day here. So many things to see - the photos do not do it justice. A fascinating glimpse into a bygone era. The exhibits have been lovingly assembled and the work put into creating this museum is stunning to see. Highly recommended if you are in the area. A cute stop on our way home to England. There were plenty of interesting things to see set in the 1900's. Very accessible for young children and some fun activities to do along the walk around the exhibition's. There is also a church depicting the Easter story which was quite fitting as we visited just after Easter Monday. Tickets a bit pricey for what is offered inside, the grounds are quite small and didn’t look particularly well maintained. The thing that I really struggled with is the chickens and rabbits confined in pens just outside the terrace seatings. The rabbits’ water bowls looked dirty - some looked empty covered with hay and the other one had quite a lot of fur on the water. The grey rabbit, while I stood there for 10-15 mins observing, was constantly grooming and pulling her/his hair. I’m not sure why the small animals were kept there but they looked a bit sad. This place was amazing! The kids and us adults loved it so much! Lots of things to explore! Would definitely recommend Absolutely delightful. We spent about four hours here on a lovely, sunny, day with a five year old. Our grandaughter loved seeing all the old workshops and really got in the spirit of this replica village, revisiting the little windmill more than once. The tiny church is beautiful, the lady running it that day was polite and attentive, it really is worth a visit, if we are in the area again I'm sure we will go back This will take you back to olden days and you will wonder really of how shops were. Good for adults and kids both. Beautiful chapel, flowing river, lots of well maintained greenery and some old photos attached with every ancient machine/place. My parents and my son went to hike with me there from another village, when I just about to pay the tickets I found I lost my wallet. Can happen that I left in the car which was 4km away. I let my parents and son stay there and wanted to go back myself to my car. The very nice host lady heard about it, and just took her car key and said I drive you back. I was so frustrated that I could have lost my wallet and have to go back on foot to the car. She just gave me such help that I was so impressed at that time. Immediately she drove me to my car and I found my wallet there. I want to say thank you so much for the great help. It might be a small thing for you but you can’t imagine how stressed I was when I couldn’t find my wallet. I am not a big fun of museum but this museum is really amazing that I couldn’t stop looking all the collections one by one and want to explain everything to my son. Fantastic experience, such nice lady and such wonderful museum. Worth to see in any case and you will not regret!!!
