Amazingly it seems to be quite unknown with everyone just staying at the dam and no one hiking in the mountains behind the lake. Great route from here to ales Marécottes (both accessible with public transport). Absolutely fantastic. The views are stunning and you can eat in the cafe overlooking those views. The food was veey good and not ridiculously priced (for Switzerland). We paid to go up on the funicular etc, which is quite pricey. It was worth it but when we got to the top we realised you can drive there! The zip line is fab and so glad we paid to do it! Even on a rainy day, sweet spot, worth the hike to the old dam a bit up, for the best homemade soup of the shelter Amazing! just go Picturesque man made dam among gorges, with ancient underground tunnel nearby, worth going! Incredibly beautiful place ! Enjoy such activities like hiking, walking, zip line and restaurant with an amazing view.it’s better to come here early in the morning and spend the whole day here by enjoying the nature. After spending 6 weeks there for independent geological mapping, I know the place very well. Everywhere in the area is beautiful, the paved roads provide easy walks around the lake and to the smaller lake. Walking up to the highest peak on the east side of the lake is not too difficult and the view is spectacular as you can see Martigny and Chamonix from the peak. During late June there is still quite a lot of snow so some areas, especially off the main path are difficult or impossible to access but by mid July most of the snow has melted.
