Tourist Office Ieper

Ypres, Belgium Tourist information center

Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Useful for leaflets and maps but staff appeared disengaged and a bit grumpy. I guess it would be a perfect job if it wasn't for all the annoying tourists! 🤣 Beautiful buildings the inside is a information centre cafe there are many books gifts, cards you can also buy tickets for the Flanders museum which is just a short walk out side Very helpful staff. You do feel pressurised into buying something though Fantastic location been twice now Nice shop as well as access to maps, booklets and advice. Located in the gloriously rebuilt Cloth Hall we actually walked past the tourist information even though we were looking for it! It is crammed full of leaflets and information which proved invaluable for our 5 days cycling around the battlefields. We collected free leaflets and maps (you can buy others) and this was enough for us to be able to plot journeys of exploration for each of our days. When I checked in Old Tom Hotel the person who checked me in told me that the market was not on that Saturday morning and my car was fine parked in the market until 9am the next day. My car was towed at 3am 200€ later and after enduring a very rude tow truck driver, I retrieved my rental car. The next morning I complained about my unfortunate experience to the tourist office. The lady at the desk confirmed that the town's website did in fact said that the market was not on that Saturday and that I should complain to the Mayor. 15 minutes later the lady from the tourist office tracked me down in the Flanders Museum and very loudly explained that what she had said earlier was not true and it was all the hotels fault. Avoid Ypres at all costs it's all about fleecing the gullible tourists. Tourist information was out first stop when arriving in Ypres and we found the staff helpful along with lots of useful information to help us with our independent tour of the battlefields. When we popped in again on our last morning, I didn't realise that I had left 40 euros on the counter when I bought a map. It wasn't until later on in the day when we were on our way to France that I clicked what I must have done. I cannot praise the staff enough from the first phone call to check that I had left it there, to the following emails which resulted in them returning my money through a bank transfer. They were extremely kind, helpful and considerate. A special thank you to Lise who dealt with it. Not only am I very grateful but iI will always remember your kindness.Thank you.
