The Nicula is situated in a beautiful landscape. It is well known in the region since water supposedly came out of a painting from where the eyes of a woman were - a weird case of leakage. The old wooden is not from this place, actually, fake. And it closed, we hoped to see these two. So is the older stone church, but you can read about how beautiful the painting is and imagine. What is open is the modern unfinished larger (they get larger and the gets more money from people - forget about taxes), but that is not a beautiful church, it is however big. The toilets are very bad, not usable under regular conditions, without a miracle - I will not include such stinky photo. Beautiful praying place. They have a special icon and old wooden church, a monastery, and more of the same. You have beautiful views above the valley. Nice and quiet place when not filled with pilgrims on special religious occasions. There are still works done on the road and in parking space, so it might be a bit messy and crowded. Amazing holy place! Such a quiet place and the view of the valley was amazing! A very nice place to visit or even more. A very good choice for praying. Nothing special, yet... except the miracle-working icon of Holy Mother and the Child. The last part of the road to the is very steep, with steep slope, with hairpin curves and in places is narrower than a two trafic lanes so if you go by car you have to pay attention to the road and run at a very low speed. As a general suggestion, the climbing traffic has priority but not all the motorised pilgrims respect this safety rule. There ia a big parking place, in front of the entrance to the monastery. I think the parking could acomodate approximately 100 cars. Anyway, it is not enough if there is a holy celebration day and I do not recommend a visit during such a day because of the large number of believers attending the ceremony. Near the parking place there are the toilets, în a new building. The toilets are very clean, and in a large number. I can say I was surprised, in a good way about how this space, of toilets, was organised and how well taken care of is. As you enter through the gate of the monastery, where you can observe 4 flags, 2 romanians flags, 1 clerical flag and 1 of the EU (?) - I don't get the relevance of the EU flag - immediately on the right side there is the old church. This is closed and it looks like it was abandoned. On the back side of that old there is a scene where I quess some ceremonies are held. On the left side there is a souvenir shop from where you can buy various articles but is very small and the offer is limited compared to monasteries of the same size from other places. There is a monk selling those articles and you have to ask for what you want to buy. In the middle of the main court there is a small made from wood, very old, wich was brought there from other place. This is considered an "Historic monument" and near its door there is a paper with informations about that church, written in 3 different languages. The disappointing fact was that the door of the small welcomed us with a big lock on it. The new is up the hill and to reach there you have to climb 64 steps (21, 8, 12, 11, 12). When I visited the monastery, the new was under construction, but the frontal part, the part with the entry, was almost finished. The interior is fresh painted, so fine that the paintings looks like photo pictures applied on the walls with a special technique. As a remark, the walls are not full with paintings, "crowded", like in old orthodox churches, there is generous space between them. In the there is a box with 38 holy relics of different saints. There are also an icon with Holy Mother and Jesus but I don't know if this is the miracle-working icon because there is another one in the basement that looks like the same age as the one from the altar. The altar is simple and the walls are painted with a lot of light colours making the interior very bright comparing to other orthodox churches. At the exit, there is a baptise bowl, on the right side, made of copper. At the basement there is a room for ceremonies, maybe was used when the main ceremony room from the was under construction. There are 2 barrels, made from stainless steel, full with holy water. There are some plastic bags, on the floor, where pilgrims left a few empty plastic bottles for those who came without any recipient and want to take some holy water with them, at home. From the basement you can take candles and you may light them outside where there are 2 special places designed for that, one for living ones, "VII", and one for those who died, "MORTI" - incorrect "died" because for the believers, those are considered "asleep". The nicer thing is the view of the landscape, especially if sitting in the front of the new church. This is beautiful and together with a very relaxing silence, filled by birds chirp and leaves rustling it creates a moment very good for meditation. Have a nice visit! Blessed place, monks and nuns are super nice and they fast and pray a lot I hope this is only a transitory breakdown of the holly spirit embracing this place. Old is cracked, devastated and closed and the wonderful round shrine is gone. The mistery of this unimpresive seen from outside, in sharp contrast with its miraculous interior, is no more. The sacre icon looks sad and lonely in the new concrete and marble mall, whouse size does not fit the place and stays unfinished for far to long. I just know you are really, really close to God ❤️❤️❤️ Nice place to clear your thoughts and pray for the loved ones. Old 17th century is the highlight of the place. So nice monastery, new churh still under some construction, but the inside is veautifull, and there is miracolouse pięter of Holly Virgin Mary.
