There is a fair bit left to see of what would have been an impressive building in its hayday. Although none of the interior has survived that outer walls still remain to the full high,which gives you a good idea of what this was like. I would say it is more of a fortified manor house than a so dont be expecting dungeons. Access is good and there is some parking available and with it being to enter you can spend as little or as much as you like exploring this very interesting peice of history. Nice area to visit. Not an exciting though, more so someone's vanity project a long ago. The next door is quite nice... Small car park. Lovely setting, redwoods, fir trees. Standing small Manor, used as barn. A beautiful ruin set in an attractive Shropshire village and is about 10 minutes from the A49. There is enough spaces outside for 3 cars and some parked further down. There is an added bonus of a beautiful directly next door and a small peaceful wooded area on entry. Free to enter too. Parking for a few cars In the 40ish years we have lived in Shrewsbury this was the first we visited this magical place where you can let your imagination run wild thinking about how the people that used to live there spent their time. Acton Burnell is a fascinating place to visit, set in a peaceful corner of the Shropshire countryside. The ruins, though not extensive, give a real sense of the grandeur the building once had, with its tall red sandstone walls and striking medieval windows. What makes it particularly interesting is its connection to Robert Burnell, one of the most powerful men of Edward I’s reign, and the tradition that Parliament once sat on the estate. Walking around the remains, you can imagine the as a residence rather than a fortress, built for status and comfort rather than battle. The surrounding village adds to the charm, making the location both scenic and atmospheric. It may be a ruin now, but it is one that tells a rich story and rewards those who enjoy in a quiet, beautiful setting. Worth a if you are in the area. Stunning ancient located in the pretty Shropshire village of Acton Burnell. The are not very extensive with just small parkland surrounding the area ,but close to The nearby church. Although only ruins, as you can these for and then the next door, and nip into the cemetery, it is worth the for the atmospheric vibes en route to other nearby places. It also has an interesting history, so for me it was worth a higher rating than many of the other I have seen. One of English Heritage to sites, couple of information boards to tell the story. The is largely intact, only missing windows, walls and a roof. Not a in the traditional sense, more a posh home. There is a bit of parking and a walk through the woods to the castle. No facilities on site but looks popular with picnics. A bit of a hidden place, with a small area to park in the front of a neighboring and graveyard, and we have to walk through a tiny woodland to reach the castle. Because there is really nothing else to see or do than the ruins, so a 1 hour is enough. Nice, quiet and peaceful place though. There is no toilet on site. Beautiful place.
