Blessed with a sunny day this time, we had a picnic :) Moreton Corbet Castle is a ruined medieval castle and Elizabethan manor house. It is now looked after by english heritage though is still owned by the Corbet family. Visiting is daylight hours and is . Apart from a car part there are no facilties on site. The or what remains of it still has some wonderful architectural detail, particularly in the elizabethan manor part. The was once stormed by legendary Knight William Marshall on behalf of King John. The walls also show pock marks from musket shot from the civil war. A really fascinating place and well a Intriguing bit of and quiet unique with it having the remains of both a 16th- century house and a 12th-century all on one site. There isn't a great deal left of however the of the manner house are impressive. There is even a small celler to explore. There is limited parking on site, and it is to enter. A hauntingly peaceful place that makes you feel as though you're a hair's width away from being able to touch the past. Decent sized carpark. Really impressive structure. The detail of the stonework carving is stunning! Little cellar to go into. A place we've passed on the way to Shrewsbury without being tempted, yet on the morning run it seemed to light up in tge spring sunshine. So after a monumental afternoon trying to chose sofas it called to us on our way home. Its always a suprise when a can just abandon a place to its fate and still retain ownership. Maybe i'm too attached to buildings where time and money were invested. Not my squirrel as they say. Well time out to this area. You don't need tickets it's free. Lovely peaceful place in the heart of the countryside. The are amazing, definitely a visit. There's also an old and graveyard right next to the ruins. We didn't have time to go around them, but will do so at some stage. There was only a handful of other visitors whilst we were there. There is no entrance fee, no parking charge and no limit on the time you can spend there. I love how peaceful this is, plenty to explore, surrounded by farmland and a next door. Not much parking and no charge to enter. Great for exploring or just for a quiet space to sit down, rest, relax and read a book on a quiet afternoon. Very highly recommended. There's never anywhere open on New Year's Day so a trip to Moreton Corbet it was! It's a great place for a picnic in the summer with space for children to run around and play. If you're expecting a cafe... don't. It's predominantly a ruin and a great day out which is easy on the eye and even kinder on the pocket. No tickets necessary . Not very busy usually and decent phone signal good amount of people, not too busy, no gift shops or anything like that, there was signs with information on it but not as much detail as I would have wanted, really nice fresh air and nice view of the wheat field, nice freshly cut grass Lovely ruin opens the idea to how it was built and lived in 600 to 800 years ago A lovely peaceful place for a picnic.
