We went for lunch. was thoughtful and gave us suggestions of what would suit us. The wine was excellent, some of the best I've had in Slovenia. bread and olives. The fillet was lovely, complimented by some vegetables. We also had the chicken, which was a bit salty however. We were charged £1.50 for the tap water, which was a little surprising. But overall an excellent lunch. I only visited the restaurant. When looking for a more sit-down place along the main road in Bovec, this place seemed to be one of the only available places. The food was quite good, the initial bread was nice. The game with polenta, and the frika, were quite tasty. was decently nice, perhaps on the slow side but nothing too severe. I think it does the job if you want to try the local food. We had a terrible at this restaurant. We ordered some local meals. the soup and mains were not at all, tasted like microwaved food. I barely touched my meal and I didn't want to continue eating in this place. we received appalling and the same day in the evening and one of us experienced stomach issues. avoid this place! We just went to the for dinner. The was friendly and fast (although we came in October when it is a little less busy). We tried the cheese soup and a salad as well as the grilled trout. The was delicious, the cheese soup could maybe have a little more flavour. We had a great here, we’re not sure why it has so low reviews. The complementary bread was, for a boring whit bread, tasty and crunchy on the outside. It came with a homemade smoked fish spread which was delicious! Then the dear carpaccio was on amazing. And for meal, the calamari and were very fresh and portion. For dessert we had Gibanica and it was delicious. It was warm, portion and it was not super sweet. We only visited the restaurant, not the bed and breakfast so I can’t speak for that, but the dining we had was okay. The was pretty slow and dishes did not all come together, but they were pretty accommodating with us and found us a table on a Sunday night which was very helpful. The food wasn’t incredibly tasty, but the frika was very and both the meat and vegetables platter were pretty big. Taste wise it was a bit bland but not bad overall. It’s in a very convenient spot in Bovec and the outside seating area had a lot of charm, so it’s a spot for a quick stop, without expecting a fine dining experience. Extra points for the waitress who was super and had suggestions for bars in the nearby area. A Culinary Journey Through Confusion Some restaurants take pride in tradition. Others… well, they seem to take pride in making you question your life choices. Let’s start with the frika—usually a rustic, comforting dish, but here it was more of an uninspired attempt. The slanina? As local as a gas station sandwich. The cheese? A relentless avalanche of pre-shredded monotony, generously applied to nearly every dish as if it were some sort of universal seasoning. Then came the veal roast. Or at least, that’s what the menu claimed. What actually arrived looked more like a failed carpaccio experiment—thin slices, no depth, no soul. If I had wanted translucent meat, I’d have ordered prosciutto. But the real showstopper? The so-called “standing” on potatoes. A dish that, to its credit, at least provided some comic relief before the inevitable eye-roll. Why was it standing? Why was it balancing on potatoes like some bizarre circus act? Some questions are better left unanswered. At the end of the day, this is a place you can confidently skip. There are plenty of restaurants that understand how to treat traditional dishes with the respect they deserve (Bistro 9:45, Polonka, etc...) We didn't stay in the hotel so our is just about the food. In 2005 we were in Bovec the first time, and we had some diners here. Now we returned with our family, three handsome boys, and were curious about the food... No disappointment, the contrary.. again, really food and (due to the weather) were able to sit outside... Friendly waiters and food, what do you need more? For a in the mountains the seafood was very good! The soça river is gorgeous but does not provide seabass or brim :-) We enjoyed our mixed seafood plate and the mixed grill was awesome too according to our sons. Bovec offers more restaurants, but 'chez Martin' is a banger. Dining here felt like biting into a poorly disguised prank. The main course? Imagine stuffed sand served on stale bread – that’s the level we’re talking about. As for the soup, it only had any flavor because I seasoned it myself. Without that, it might’ve passed as warm dishwater. Overall, the was less of a meal and more of a cautionary tale. Definitely not going back unless I lose a bet. was pleasant, but we've waited 1 hour for our dishes - we should be informed if it take so long.Unfortunately fish mix with unprepared shrimps - dark vein not removed - unacceptable. fillet decent. Need improvements. the and the mood is incredible, the food is delicious, and i was over the moon for the terrano liquor, i would recommend it to anyone coming here <3 Six of us descended on this at very little notice on a midweek evening. The food, drinks, and were all superb. There is an entire page on the menu dedicated to trout. Have the trout. Really, have the trout. It will be memorable. A true gem of hospitality and great food! The place is always impeccable, clean, and welcoming, creating a warm and family-like atmosphere. The family running it is the heart and soul of the restaurant—radiant, kind, and always attentive to making every guest feel at home. And the food? Simply delicious! Every dish is meticulously prepared with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors that delight the palate. Each bite is a journey through traditional flavors, with that special touch of love that makes all the difference. A place you’ll always want to return to, because beyond the great food, you’ll find the warmth and hospitality that make every special. Highly recommended! When we arrived, almost all the tables outside were marked as reserved and empty. When they heard that we didn't speak German or Italian (my wife was on the phone), they offered us the option to sit inside. After an hour, the tables outside were still unoccupied. We waited about 40 minutes for our food. The food wasn't anyway. The was muddy, overcooked. The potatoes were cold. After ordering, they brought us 4 mini breads, 2 olives and a small bowl of some kind of fat as a starter. We thought it was a normal courtesy of the establishment, but the surprise came when we paid. They charged us 3.80 euros for it and argued that it was listed on the menu as mandatory. The waiter was arrogant the whole time. We didn't feel at all comfortable and welcome there. They choose the guests, they reserve the tables on the terrace for German or Italian speaking tourists. That's probably what offended us the most about this "gastronomic experience". Avoid avoid! Staff were extremely rude and food below average at best. Worst we’ve experienced in Slovenia. We have found Slovenian’s to be super friendly on our trip. But I’m not sure what happened at this place!
