Is there anyone in the neighbourhood who would rent a parking spot for a few hours to facilitate a visit by any chance? Lovely coastal of an easy 30 minutes each way from Dunmore car park (online guides making this a 2 hour plus are utterly wrong) to Portally Cove. The is safe for swimming at all tides but there is a very strong westerly current running from just outside the so only expert open water swimmers should consider venturing swimming to Seal Cave which is about 1500 metres away. The coastal is probably best in May or early June when the Thrift are in full bloom on the cliff edge. Be warned the SE coast is prone to sea fog, which, if it descends, rarely lift within a day Great beach for a dip! Just don't forget to bring your towel as it's a long way back to the car park! Tranquil isolated cove. No car parking at all means access best made as part of the cliff The cliff in Dunmore East is well worth it. Be sure to check the tides as the beach is not accessible at high tide. Not strenuous at all, it is a great for all ages and abilities. We had high hopes for this beach, but when we arrived there was not much parking as the locals had coned off the road leading to it. Plus there was quite a lot of scum and foam washing up on the shore and very pebbly, which didn’t make it very appealing for a swim. Beach and landscape were attractive enough, but not a place to swim! One of the most beautiful spots in county Waterford, a lovely coast/cliff out to the from just outside dunmore east. Car park marks the start of the at the West end of the village. Phenomenal! In summer, the sea is often calm, the area is peaceful and uncrowded, and there are scenic hiking trails nearby. One downside: there's no parking close to the beach. If you're coming with kids, be prepared for a fairly steep downhill—and back uphill—between the hypothetical parking area and the shore. Still, this place is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended! We hiked to Portally Beach via the Coastal Cliffwalk. I left part of my heart in this cove. We stayed in this for quite some time, conversing with some of the locals, looking for sea glass, which we were lucky enough to find and just basking in the pure radiance and beauty of this location. I count down the days till I am able to return. A little bit of heaven on earth... Portally is a stoney beach, that can be accessed by road, and via the stunning costal from Dunmore East. Definitely not suitable for people with walking disabilities. The sheltered is beautiful, with the aqua clear water, where one can often see a seal playing here. Beautiful little cove. Definitely go and see it. And also up the cliffs around it to see a gorgeous view of the from above.
