Full of water... And there is a path to walk near the shore.. it's an amazing experience. When we went it was a little cloudy and windy. You have plenty of parking so if you're driving there is no need to worry. What a stunning little find Penarth Marina was after walking the Cardiff Bay Trail. After crossing the barrage we wandered into the harbour and what a beautiful place it is. Walking along there are benches to sit and enjoy the view of all the lovely boats that are moored up. If you are lucky you may see a leaving the harbour. This marina is a lovely tranquil place and if you are around Cardiff Bay it's worth a stop off Stayed in one of the kingsize rooms at The Deck right on the marina. Great location and views. Enjoyed a walk across the barrage to the parliament building and the art centre and a ride back across the bay. NB Would have appreciated less shouting & swearing at 6.45am-8am when the local fishing tour moored near the room prepared and then went out on 2 of the days we were staying there. Toptip - Ask for the pod rooms furthest away from the Anchorsholme if you want a holiday lie in. Feel sorry for the other owners moored alongside them Lovley walk from the Bay around to Penarth marina. There is a that will take you 1 or both ways. Cycle path can be busy at times but also has a nice wide tarmac path for walking and running. There is a toilet half way along but not always open Great day out walking along the barrage from the Penarth end to Cardiff Bay. Superb views across the Bristol Channel to Weston super mare and up the river you can see the two bridges spanning the river Severn on a clear day. Lots of things to see and do. The engineering of the barrage is impressive, work commenced in 1994 was completed in 1999 with three locks allowing vessels access from the Severn estuary into Cardiff Bay. There are also five sluice gates that control the freshwater in the bay and out into the Severn with a fish pass to allow salmon and sea trout to return to the rivers Taff and Ely to spawn. Awesome place Stayed in one of the floating pods and it was beautiful. The room was clean and spacious with a beautiful deck to enjoy some spring sun and a really comfy and very large bed. Staff were 10/10 with letting us park a little earlier than normal so we could walk around the area and their recommendations were fantastic in terms of local eats! Nice marina, not huge amount of parking for Berth holders and restaurant could do with some better beer. But has nice outdoor seating and the Berth holders part has very good showers and even a bath. Lovely place for day out Kids & Adults. I recommend. Great place, especially the pods accommodation.... What can I say.....absolutely wonderful!!! I would highly recommend to EVERYONE!! I would highly rate it in every way! All staff were friendly and helpful! The room...Wow!! Perfect! With perfect views! A most relaxing retreat for anyone ! I can not wait to book up again. And I will be booking friends and family here for a little treat real soon!! Thank you. 😊 Lovely place to spend a day. Took a ride on the big wheel, had a drink at an outdoor bar and watched the world go by then had a 45 minute cruise around the bay. Perfect😁 If you own a boat, you should dock it here in Penarth Marina. You can lock in and out via VHF radio and barrage control are very helpful on radio channel 18. Plus, you can fish out in the Bristol Channel, it’s neat!
