This is a fantastic hidden gem. Petrapilosa is magnificent but it was much more than the that impressed us. Isolated in farm lands down a mostly single lane road we spotted it in the distance high on the hillside. The drive was easy and the parking is right out front and free. As we approached the size impressed us, this was no small ruin. To our surprise there was an auto station for entry to the castle.. They took cards and it generated a ticket that then we put in a scanner to open the turnstile. It is truly on an honor system. There was a state of the art interactive audio visual display before entering to learn more about the castle. As you entered, the chapel came first, which had several more audio visual displays detailing life, court entertainment, battles etc. From there you enter the itself and the wonder continues. There is scaffolding throughout to allow you the explore multiple levels and enjoy stunning views. At one point you enter a room and are welcomed, in your language, by a life size mechanical knight in body armor. That was a fun surprise. There is so much to explore and then you also have stunning views of the countryside. Awesome place! There's multimedia panels placed in the church and the bottom of the stairs in the to explore the history of it. The view of the surrounding valley and hills is amazing and it's worth visiting. The price at this time is 30kn per person, but the ramp is broken and rotates whether you scan a ticket or not, so give it a little push to see if you can get in for free or not. Fantastic! I really didn't expect it to be so huge! The ruins are majestic, the view is beautiful, and you can also learn something. Definitely worth the visit, you won't be disappointed! Great place to visit... very quiet with not many people around... you need an hour to visit all the corners if you have an interest in old castles and ruins.. if not 30 minutes is enough. It's not bad to read (Read? I know right, who does that but do it) all the descriptions, they are very helpful. In Summer you have also music evenings organised. Watch for the guy ond the left when you enter the Keep 😊 It's a hidden gem above the valley with a nice energy and views. I recommend it Friendly location, worth the entrance fee. Very narrow road is leading to parking so thing about parking below and take the hike to the castle. Castle is nicely maintained with interactive screens.
