Der Weg ist steinig und es gibt keinen Schatten. Reichlich Getränke mitnehmen. Schatten gibt es erst in der Höhle des Klosters Im neuen Kloster ist angemessene Kleidung erwünscht erwünscht keine nackten Schultern und Knie. Am Eingang gibt es bei Bedarf eine kostenlose Tuch Ausleihe. Da das Kloster noch aktiv bewirtschaftet wird sind eine Bereiche zugänglich und innerhalb der Klostermauern ist das Fotografieren erwünscht. Die Basilika ist zugänglich und wir durften während der Gebete in der Basilik als Gäste bleiben. Danke dafür. Übrigens die 2.50 Euro Eintritt sind wirklich viel und werden für die Erhaltung des Klosters genutzt Beautiful ruins, really the exhausting hike. Entry fee is 2,5€ per person. If you're up for it, you can continue to walk the gorge from here, but the is challenging. You'll be rewarded with a very beautiful cliff bay though. Remember to bring enough water, there is no possibility to refill at the monastery. Lovely ruins with some fantastic photos opps. From the car park the walk isn't too bad. But pretty steep back. The walk to stavros however is pretty tough and not for the faint hearted. Great thats about 3km. Caves are nice, the trek is very slightly and easy to manage. The at the end is crystal clear blue green color. The bridge area is beautiful. Not sure why but there are several things that I didnt find anywhere in Crete: less people althought I was in August and all mountain roads are crowded, the entire trip full of interesting caves or monasteries, the older one 1000 years old, at the end of the road the perfect place to swim or make high jumps from clifs, again no tourists. I can define this to be a perfect place in Crete. Highly recommend doing this for one of your mornings in Crete. We arrived around 8 am and there were no crowds, but as we were leaving at 10, there was a crowd forming at the at the start of the trek. Cover your legs (no shorts) when in the monasteries. Bring lots of since the is steep and there isn’t a lot of shade. The ruins are very cool, they aren’t huge but they are impressive considering how long ago they were built. Palące słońce oraz brak infrastruktury (toalety, zakup wody) są dodatkowym utrudnieniem. Widoki bardzo ładne, jaskinia fajna, monaster też. The old cave is creepy but evocative. And the carved into the cliff face is impressive. NOTE- there is no cell reception and the is a continuous downhill which means a forced march back up to return to the parking. If you have mobility issues, keep that in mind. For regular hikers, this won’t feel strenuous. If doing the during the summer, note that there isn’t any tree cover or shade so a hat and is recommended as it will be hot. You need to be ready for a decent but the views and the ruins with the cave along the way make it a must see if you have ime in Crete. We had a nice wine tasting at the holy Trinity monestary which is on the way from Chania and a look too. Just see from outside. Photography is prohibited inside the monastery. Follow the white and red marks when you get to that patch of grass as it could be a little confusing. Other than that, take your time, dont trip and enjoy one of the most scenic hikes you will ever do. Once you head back up, take a moment and visit the where you will find the monks doing a ceremony. Note that the to Katholiko Bay is open, but swimming is prohibited. fee was 2.50 euros per person, cash only. Beautiful ruins of an ancient monastery, well a visit. Absolutely stunning walk from the Gouverneto car park. Do take some precautions. The first part of the trail is really easy and well packed, but it does get a bit uneven and some of the rocks are worn enough to have become a bit slippy. Definitely bring a few bottles of water. Fantastic views of the surrounding hills and sea the further you descend. There's a bit of scrambling from the to Katholiko Bay further down the trail. Bit of cardio on the way back up. All in all a couple of hours well spent. Very good place for a views and for your body get tired so many steps but after that good food in hotel. The is manageable and suitable even for those with little hiking experience. Just make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen, water, and a hat, as it can get quite sunny. The destination itself is an amazing historical site and absolutely the visit. DON’T GO. Starting from the beginning: we get there, there’s a guy in an “office” that charged the 2,50 fee. Ok, perfect. Tell us nothing about the there. No disclaimers, no pointers, no directions what so ever. We even asked: is there more than one hike? Answer was a solid no. We started the down at 10:19. Got to the beach at 11:44. Specially because since there are no signs we ended up going down a steep hill that was not the main one. It was kind of a short cut. Dangerous one, might I add. Again: NO SIGNS. We get down and we see people walking from our left. So we agreed to go back through the correct now that we knew where it was. Stayed at the beach until 14h and started making our way back. We could see some demarcations at the rocks. White and red. Pretty simple, right? We get to what we now know was the monastery. At the time, we thought it was just a bridge. Demarcations lead us to the right. So we followed. At 15:15 we realized we were walking for way too long and something was wrong. We were getting nowhere. We could not hear anyone anymore. None of us had signal on our phones. Not even a bar. I got dehydrated and fainted. We had so much with us but it wasn’t enough. My friend was starting to feel like she might have a heatstroke. Some kind of miracle happened here and we managed to open google maps. We were more than 3km away from the Monastery. Followed the back and found a guy. He told us we should “climb the rocks up the to get out”. Super intuitive. Super obvious. No. Signs. But sure, there were demarcations. Same ones that lead us to the wrong path. We got there at 16:01. From that point on it took us 57min to get to the entrance. As soon as I got to the I was filled with rage. Tried containing it as much as possible. But the oh so kind man sitting at the front office did not help. I started with a simple question: “if you dont mind me asking what are we paying for exactly?”. He looked confused. So I tried explaining it. “I’m trying to understand where is this money going. Because there’s no aid spots, no spots, no signs, no safety.” He then asked me where I was from. ?? As if that was the problem haha. “Brazil, why?”. He laughed. “I don’t know how it works there, but the has to pay for taxes and this is their plot”. He was laughing. I was clearly distraught. Told him I fainted, told him I had a sprained ankle, told him my friend had a heatstroke and was still on the hike. Told him we walked 2h on a different path. He looked me dead on the eye “there’s only one way down”. To which i answered laughing “No, there’s not. And I know because I’ve been there. And I’ve seen at least 3 different paths. And I have it all on video.” He laughed. Again. And said “show me where you got lost”. I was pulling my phone out to show him the he told me it didn’t exist when he pointed to his eye and said “can you read?” Pointing to a big sign with small letters. That was where I lost it. I just walked away to the car. Crying in pain and rage. 10 to 20min go by and I get out of the car determinated to get back and find out if they are okay. Yes, I was gonna go down that again. To my surprise they were talking to the sweet guy at the entrance. I had no chills left. Yes I got there screaming. “Do you know how to speak? Because you should have told us to read the sign!” And he’s just there. Laughing. He asked my cousin “what am I supposed to do? Put on your cousins mouth?”. So. Fu*****. Condescending. My cousin tried talking to him calmly because I had lost it already. “I just wanted to give constructive feedback and tell you guys to put clear signs everywhere.” He. Was. Laughing. Curious to know about what is written on the sign at the entrance? “No clear path, no on the way, no access to ambulance or aid, no sand on the beach. The douchebag at the then said “what I am supposed to do? Tell this to everyone that enters here?”. Uh? Yes?!? What exactly is he doing there?Enjoying the day? Tolle Wanderung, bitte unterschätzen. Und es gibt keine Toilette!! Man sollte eher festes Schuhwerk tragen (Birkis gingen noch) und gut Wasser dabei haben. Der Weg zu Klosterruine ist definitiv eher eine Wanderung, da die letzten Teile sehr steil zur Bucht abfallen. Wer ans Meer möchte muss noch mehr hinab und auf keinen öffentlichen Wegen klettern. Baden ist in der Bucht allerdings verboten. Der steile Pfad hat nur an manchen Stellen eine Reling, also Obacht, wer mit Kindern dort ist, es geht stellenweise steil bergab in die Schlucht. Eintritt kostet 2,50€, den ich völlig in Ordnung finde, der Weg ist schon schön. Der Weg ist wie bereits beschrieben in praller Sonne und vor allem der Rückweg hat es durch die Steigung in sich, er ist überwiegend befestigt (mit größeren Steinplatten). Die Höhle in der Mitte fand ich fast beeindruckender als die Ruine. Die Ruine ist sehr heruntergekommen und wird in den Eingängen sehr stark als Toilette verwendet, das war sehr sehr unangenehm, ansonsten regt sie zum Ausmalen der Lebensweise an und ist schon eine beeindruckende Bauweise am Berg. Zu Beginn ist noch das neuere Kloster, dort sollte man allerdings die Öffnungszeiten beachten. Wir waren drin, da es geschlossen hatte. Die Anlage wird allerdings gerade renoviert und macht einen schönen Eindruck. Etwas weiter vorher auf dem Zufahrtsweg ist noch ein anderes größeres Kloster, das wäre als Alternative zu besichtigen (ist ein Touri-hotspot, da Ölherstellung), kostet allerdings nochmal 5€, das geben wir zumindest dann gemacht. Der Parkplatz ist direkt vor dem Kloster und unbefestigt. Eingang wird anscheinend gerade angepasst, so dass Google Maps Angaben oder Komoot mehr ganz aktuell sind. Wir haben für alles etwas 3 Stunden gebraucht. Brauchten Pausen wegen der Mittagshitze. Ich fand's super interessant und würde den Weg wieder gehen. (Hat etwas von Lost Place Erkundung.)
