In the list of my best places in Crete 👍 I arrived in October on a Monday and it's better I ate already in Theriso as the restaurant was not open. On Google maps they say it's closed on Tuesday but the schedule is not updated. Call before you arrive as you can have a surprise. The road from Theriso to Ntounias is wonderful. This restaurant is overhyped and to my mind not worth a drive from chania or any other location more than 20 minutes. Even in Chania you will get better food than this. A true hidden gem in Chania, a humble restaurant with extremely fresh ingredients and a very humble chef. The food and hospitality is amazing. A must visit if you are in Crete as you will never find this anywhere else. It is quite a long and winding drive to get here from chania, but I think it’s worth it. Traditional farm to table style where you can see what you’re eating. They have the best goat and lamb that’s in a stone oven. It preserves the natural taste and flavour of the meat without spices that overpower it. They also have the best crispy potatoes something about them was just not overly greasy and super earthy. The waiters there are very friendly and gave us potatoes on the house and chocolate cake on the house. Phenomenal! What an this was for authentic Cretan cuisine. We let them decide what we ate and it was so tasty. Each meal is incredibly tender and unique. Tasteful dishes of the local Cretan cuisine! Very warm space with very kind service! had such an enjoyable lunch here. everyone was so incredibly warm and welcoming and the food was delicious. it was also really cool to see them cooking on the stoves outside. we are staying in chania but this was well worth the drive I’m not sure who our server was but he was fantastic! He knew it was just the two of us and offered a mix of all their best dishes at a very reasonable price. Everything came out and fresh and it was the perfect portion for us. The snail was definitely our favorite but the goat is too. The restaurant is located on a mountain and offers stunning view of the valley. The food is authentic, made from local ingredients, often straight from their own garden. Everything tastes homemade, prepared with great heart and passion. The atmosphere is unique — warm, family-like, and genuinely Cretan. The host is a wonderful person who radiates love for life, nature, and food. You can feel that everything here comes straight from the heart. I recommend trying everything that appears on the table — every dish tells a story and carries on generations of tradition. What a find, a drive up mountainous roads to what lo9ks like a shack with various pots cooking over wood fire The menu has a lot of choices. We had piping hot bread fresh from the oven with a dish of mini olives, olive oil and oregano, delicious. A plate of local cheese was devoured immediately as we're the fried potatoes. The stuffed cabbage was excellent, the stuffing being rice and herbs with strained yogurt spooned over them. A chicken stew was as was the paper wrapped baked lamb. We were given a dish of fava beans on the house whi h was much appreciated dated. We finished with chocolate cake. We also managed to fi ish a jug of their sweet red wine. The service was excellent, including a tour of the kitchen. The meal was very cheap We really enjoyed the whole Authentic Cretan food in traditional clay pots. We had a wonderful and the food and hosts were the best. Highly recommended. A hidden of beat gem in the hills of Chania, Crete. Stelios and crew prepare food to entice all who come. A true master of the clay pots and wooden fire. Everything is prepared in house and sourced from his own land. Even his meats are true Cretan animals with DNA records which is indigenous to this region. I was blessed with the of stumbling across this Cretan institution by accident. As a solo dinner I could not have been treated with more warmth and hospitality. I was aware of the reputation and I could not have been more impressed. Best goat and lamb i have ever had. Reasonable prices and friendly staff - this place is busy but you can understand why. Probably best to book in advance but they fitted the two of us in. We ate here last Sunday and what to say…everything we tasted was from the bread in the Owen used to eat the oils and oregano to the goat in the oven, the chicken and the pork with the orange sauce. I travel the world, but this place, up in the mountain ,with this atmosphere and view took my breath away! When we came there Stavros and Emi welcome us with smile and energy! The owners were exceptionally warm and welcoming—we let them choose our meal, and they curated a perfect feast for our family, including two kids. We enjoyed tender baby lamb, succulent pork with orange, flavorful snails, and the most unique broccoli and cauliflower simmered in lamb milk. The fried potatoes and fresh bread were simple yet outstanding. On top of that, they generously treated us to local wine and other complimentary delights. The setting is stunning, with breathtaking views, but the real highlight is the food—easily the best we’ve had in all of Greece. If you’re anywhere nearby, don’t miss this place! When it comes to food you can feel all the used vegetables and a quality wine they use for cooking meats, which is super tender and falls from the bone - simply and flavourful! I’m reading all the reviews below 5 stars and I really can’t understand how people can complain about that place and food. Most of the complaints are ridiculous (really you are complaining about shoes getting dirty in the Greek countryside?!). Worth travelling from other parts of the Crete!
