Its has great parking and some lovely walks but its not signed very well. At the car park there is a safe place to swim and it has its own little but when you trek through the forest you can hear the roar of running water so I climbed down the steep bank and there in front of me was a wonderful waterfall. Getting up is as difficult as getting as its extremely steep and slippy but I was super chuffed to get my photos and get back safely to my car. A lovely location but it needs better signage and a safer way to get to the waterfall, enjoy Have walked a lot along the Glenbarrow river ,but the streets in the Slieve Blue Mountains are the most beautiful with all the waterfalls , it´s ease for the soul to there ,the only thing you hear are the birds singing and the water running ,from the spring to late October ,it´s just wonderful to bring some coffee and something to eat ,then just sit down and enjoy the peace , you feel so relaxed after ! A nice day for a hike up the mountain and through the wilderness at part of the slieve bloom mountains, myself and son took a drive up here and headed on up towards the pathway which was an adventure in itself, walking along the edge of the mountain with steep hills and very rocky terrain with some great views and unforgettable moments as this trip is a once in a lifetime if you haven't been at this location before. This would have been my second time visit this place and my son's first but we managed to get around not a bother, some stunning views in all. We came from portlaoise direction which took us about 20 minutes and went through mountmellick and rosenalis and on up towards the slieve bloom way. Great way to spend 2-3 hours. Beautiful area and very enjoyable walk. You'll be passing the picking any of the loop walks. This part is on the hill and contains claiming bits. Highly recommended! Very nice place with moderately hard terrain. You better to wear proper shoes. There are various route lengths and also various ways to reach the waterfall. Try not to choose the most popular parking place as it is quite small and will be full during the peak hours. Nice beginners hiking in co. Laois, 1.15 mins from Dublin. Lovely cafe located at the entrance and car park. We finally found the after several unsuccessful attempts—just follow the man in yellow! The is small, probably because it hasn’t rained in ages, but the area is beautiful for hiking. There aren’t many people around, and you can enjoy 5 to 6 hours of pure hiking. It's a steep up to the top if you follow the main route but you can cut off across the woods down along a narrow set of steps then treck back along the rivers edge down to the falls. Leave the shiny shoes in the car for this one. You'll need a comfy pair of hiking shoes. But it's well worth it once you get to the waterfalls and the river bank walk. Could do with a few more marker posts but half the fun is not knowing where you'll end up. A beautiful part of the country. There are 3 different trails. A 7km, 10km and 12 km trails. I only did the 7km today but will definitely return at some stage this summer to check out the rest of the area. Brilliant trail walk. Beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit for the views.
